Mazda 3 Power Steering Problem

Anybody else out there with this problem? 2007 Mazda 3, 2.3L, 24K miles. Power steering went out while driving, the PS warning light came on. I pulled over, checked the belt and fluids, looked OK so I limped it home. A few minutes later, when I restarted the motor, no warning light, and the PS is working fine. I described this to the dealer, and he said bring it in NOW, which is where it has sat for three weeks. Dealer claims a national parts back-order. I may not see my car again for two more months! (Meanwhile, I have a lame rental, on dealer's dime.)

I'm figuring if there is such a problem that there's a two-month national parts back-order, this would be the place where people would know.

Anybody else heard of this problem and parts situation?

I really like the Mazda 3. I just want it back before half the summer is gone!

Thanks for any words you may have.

Hey, check TorontoMazda3.ca website, go to the "Technical Section," then look for the thread "Power Steering Pump Went!"

Looks like there's a bunch of this going around. Lots of 3's in the shop with big wait times for parts. Appears corrosion in the PS lines to the rack are causing the PS pump motors to fail.

Maybe a recall coming.
