I seem to have the same problem 2006 Mazda 3 GTSport (automatic)
Its happened 3x this month. Wipers/Lights start but car doesnt turn over at all...
Occasional only..will eventually start with turning steering wheel few times or shifting gears then turning key again..its hit or miss.
Went to a local garage..had battery tested/good..alternator only working at 50% but isnt the problem. They cant do diagnostic test unless bring in when car is having problem.

Ive seen few posts with service bulletins/links but having trouble viewing. Maybe outdated?
Please assist as I may need tow to Mazda in morning if cant get it started tonight..again!
If it's an ATX and it's fixed by shifting the gear selector then it's probably your Park position sensor. The car will only start in Park or Neutral, so if the sensor is wonky it basically doesn't know it's in a position where it should start. Next time it happens try starting the car in Neutral.

Thanks to everyone for their help and attached service bulletins! Much appreciated!!
My first time using this website and problem fixed at dealership..thank to you all.
I told Mazda to print off the service reports provided to me re: intermittent start problems
They ordered in parts day prior to service (minimal costs)
Just got fixed tonight! $12.00 tl parts + labour min 1hr
"Shift lever at the park neutral switch was rusted and was not all the way in park, causing vehicle to not start in P. Installed new lever, washer, and nut. Cleaned rust and tested"

Happy holidays to you all and safe driving. Hutch,Wendy

p.s.
Service Bulletin 05-012/08 "Engine will not start in P-Range Intermittently" worked for me
Backup option was going to be:
Service Bulletin 01-037/08 "Starter Motor will not crank and engine does not start-intermittenly"

Both these bulletins have minimal parts costs but labour will be $100.aprox if at dealer
unelss you know how to do yourself or mechanic friend.

I'm having this same problem with my 2006 Mazda3s. Sometimes when it doesn't start the security light won't stop blinking, other times it turns off after the 3 seconds but still doesn't start. Really annoyed right now, just had it towed to the local Mazda dealer and of course it started right up, luckily I have the bulletin printed out so I dropped it off for the service department to look at on Monday. But this last time when it started up, my automatic climate control stopped working. I never had any problems with this car until I moved up to Ohio from Florida for graduate school. And never had any problems until the winter when the temperature really dropped low. Maybe it's the frozen main relay switch, or the corroded wire, or the immobilizer, or all three! Damn this is frustrating.

I have Mazda 3 2006 automatic. Regular service, battery has been replaced almost 2 years ago.
Yesterday without any faulty sign or warning car would not start.
The console arrows went nuts, jumping from bottom to top. Realized when lock/unlock car, lights don't flash at all, but it does lock/unlock.
Jump started the car with external battery no problem. Was about to leave parking, and car just started acting crazy, goes and stops, weird noises under the bonnet, as I was turning right it locked my steering wheel, abs light and some other light started flashing.
Changed in reverse, all good. Put it back in drive same thing as explained above and then suddenly car just stopped running. It's gone kaput! Left the car at Mazda's garage, but they can look at it on Tue.

btw cannot change from P to anything else, unless car starts, but this is impossible now.

Was anybody in similar situation or maybe knows what is causing this problem???

I have no car alarm installed.

Cheers

my car has similar issues with the it not starting all the time sometimes it took a minute, they said the wire itself is corroded from the battery to alt. but its just still works for now. just don't got the cash to fix.

and my car did that crazy thing with everything wigging out. my battery died when i turned off my car luckily my alternator was still good so replacing the battery helped but my wire is still corroded so it slowly drains it and the subs don't help.. so start there check battery then alt. then check that wire seems to be a common problem.

After I took my car in, it turned out it was the wire to the starter that was corroded. Since they fixed it my car hasn't had any problems. Now if only I can fix that dent in my front left panel my foot left after I was stranded the last time. Instantly regretted that decision

If you let it sit for a while then try it again it starts and runs lke there was never a problem right? I printed the bulletin, and tried to show the Mazda service guys near me (Peterborough, Ontario, Canada) and they told me that it wasn't a known problem and the bulletin wasn't Canadian. The service guys in Brampton (where I work) were very quick to recognise the problem and fix me up. Great guys!

The small wire at the the starter has corroded out, and needs to be replaced. I will have another look around here and find the service bulletin for you.

FOUND IT!!

Can anyone locate this service bulletin for me? The link posted no longer works. I am having this problem with my Mazda 3 not starting intermittently. It always happens after I've been running errands. I get back into my car to go home and it won't turn over. All lights, radio, air, etc. come on OK. Car just won't turn over. Usually if I wait 30-60 minutes, it will eventually start. I've had it to my mechanic 3 times and problem still persists.
