Mazda's mintenance schedule or dealers' maintenance schedule ?

Got an '07 mazda 3 GT, it's got 2900 miles on it now.

thing is the dealer gave me a maintenance schedule for every 3000 miles
He wants me to go change oil and filter when i hit 3000 miles, as opposed to mazda's official schedule in the printed manual and on their website to get first maintenance on 7500 miles.

Which one do you think i should go with ? should i ignore the dealer ?

Does mazda's schedule imply that the car is running on synthetic oil ? i don't actually know what type of oil is in the car now.

Could it be synthetic oil and the dealer is just trying to shake off some cash out of my pocket ??

I need your help here guys.

Um first oil change should be done early and often to break in the motor.
Ive heard 500 miles. It doesnt matter the type as the new motor has a ton of metal shavings inside it. Go with the 3000.

well this is my first time to hear about changing oil after the first 500 miles.
I haven't been informed neither by mazda nor the dealer about that.

Thanks to you zero of course.

Do you think that those metal shavings u think i got in the engine now have done permanent damage ?

Where do you live?
Unless you think that going for more frequent oil changes will extend your car's life, go with the maintenance schedule in your manual. 7500 miles.

Yeah, so reading Schedule 1 for Mazda3 Maintenance, you're due at 7500 miles.
If you're worried, going in early can't hurt. Going in at exactly 7500 miles should be good if the manual says so. It's not like the other thousands of Mazda3 owners are not doing that either.

I went in at 5000 KMs instead of 8000KMs in my first oil change b/c I actually thought it was 5000. My mistake. =) Oh well, first one early is hopefully a good thing.

I'm running mine on 5W20 Mobil1 fully syntetic with oil changes on every 7000 miles or less. The filter is being changed as well with OEM filters from the dealer (they are buy 2 get 1 free) at ~$11 a piece if I remember correctly
