My brand new 3 won't start cold!

Hi all,

This is my first post, I just bought a brand new 2007 3 s Grand Touring last week. I've found that it consistently will not start on the first turn if the car is cold (like in the morning).

I called up my dealership and they made me an appointment for service, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and knows of a cause and/or solution.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

First service they did absolutely nothing (ie Flash the computer) ...

Brought it in the night before and came back in the morning to cold start it to illustrate the problem...

Got a call this afternoon that they are replacing a 'weak fuel pump'

We'll see...

Hey Argblat did you get this problem solved?

Also how cold was it outside when the car was giving you this problem?

They replaced the fuel pump and I haven't had an issue since. Although it did happen at the end of the winter, it wasn't so much the temperature outside as it was the car not having run in a while (overnight mostly) that was the catalyst for causing this problem.

There were a couple of warm days during the experience in which the problem happened exactly the same as freezing cold days

well im still having this problem ive been to 3 dealerships and nothing, they replaced the gas tank fuel pump and purge valve and reflash, still nothing and it still happens but its intermittent so my dealer told me to come back when its happening all the time? my pump was changed at a different dealership than the 1 im at now and my gas tank was hanging 1-2 inches from the ground, thats why im at a different dealer, mabye i should get them to replace it anyway.
but when the new dealer hooked it up to the computer it said my fuel pressure was ok? i was running a little lean but i have a ms cold air intake and thats normal for the cold air intake. i guess ill have to wait intill the winter?

Maybe change the battery to one with more CCA. I live up in Canada, and we pretty much need to swap out stock batteries for some with more Cold Crank Amps. -40F days still need to drive.

Besides, a good Optima will help the entire car, not just the starts.

thanks, im going to try the optima anyway but i really think its computer/sensor related, it seems when i start it it revs up ok but i think something tells the computer its warm enough when its not and it revs down too low and dies, mabye temp sensor or coolant sensor, i dont know but im also going to replace the spark plugs because they are a little black, too black for 15,000kms.

what type of optima should i use, red or yellow top?

Ah OK. You're right, doesn't sound like the battery then.

Yellow top if you're gonna run heavy audio. Red is fine if you just need a good battery without putting a huge drain on it.
