Need to get new tires
#2
I have yokohama yk520's and I'm pretty happy with them.... that and they're about $70 cheaper per tire than the stock BAD YEARS. I would have gone with some Michellin MXV4 Plus tires (have them on my wife's car and they're great) but they're almost as much as the RS-A's.

I have Bridgestone Potenzas on my 06' HB 3 and I love them! The tires give a good blance of grip and slide. When you bank a turn you can feel the tires gripping the road. They handle extremly well in the rain too. Ive driven down the freeway goin 75-80mph weaving back and forth and there is NO slip or loss of control. They have strong sidewall as well. These tired really are worth the money and they last round 40,000miles and thats a plus too. These tires can take a beating and theve handled everything ive thrown at them so far...

All depends what you are looking for. There are so many things to consider like: handling (both wet and dry), traction/braking (both wet and dry), noise, comfort, rolling resistance, tread life, winter performance (both snow and ice), steering response, impact harshness, etc. I bought my Mazda3 pre-owned, but it had new BFGoodrich g-Force Sport tires on it. They provided excellent handling and traction, at the expense of extremely high road noise. At 10K miles, the noise got even worse, and by 15K miles, it was so unbearable that I had to have them replaced, even though there was another 10K miles of tread left. I then went to the other extreme, and purchased General Exclaim UHP tires. They are inexpensive, provide a great ride, roll very easily (very light tires), and produce almost no road noise. I can actually hear my music and talk to my wife now without shouting! The downside to these tires is that handling took a hit. Their softer sidewall results in only average handling. Their winter performance is also sub-par. But, again, it depends on what kind of ride you want, and the conditions that you drive in. For mostly highway travel in a relatively snow/ice-free region, the Generals are terrific. And while I love the Generals, especially compared the g-Force Sport, I probably prefer a tire that that handles a tad better, even if road noise goes up just slightly. Thus, my next tire will probably be the Nitto Neo Gen. It has some of the best reviews out there for being an excellent handling tire, while still producing a fairly quiet and comfortable ride. The problem with the Nitto is that it doesn't come in the Mazda3 OE size, so you'd probably have to go with the 225/50-17. I am just not sure if this size would fit without occasional fender rubbing. Does anyone know about that? If you want to stick with the 205/50-17 size, another great choice is the Falken ZE-912. I have these tire on my Toyota Celica Convertible. Like the Nittos, they provide great handling, without giving up too much in ride/noise. I just love them on my Celica. Tirerack.com is an excellent place to do tire research, since they test many of their tires, plus they have thousands of consumer reviews/ratings. Just keep in mind, they do not carry every tire brand. For instance, they do not carry Nitto or Falken, two of the better brands out there in my opinion. But, they do carry Generals, and the new General Altimax HP has outstanding consumer reviews. But, it is more of a touring tire, so it won't give you the best razor edge handling performance. Hope this helps!
