Need quiter tires
#3
I tried the continental extreme contact DWS - super quiet & much softer ride... though it also made the car pull to one side & way squishy on the road when swerving.
I've presently got goodyear eagle GT's for summer tread, and they are louder than the DWS but still way quieter than stock. Though I still don't like the swervy feel of the rear when i'm driving around.
One common thing I noticed with these quieter tires is physical tread hardness. Push on the tread with your fingers to see how much it gives. The two mentioned above are quite soft feeling, and I think that helps a lot with noise & bump absorbtion. My winters (BFG traction TA) are quite hard rubber, though they handle a ton better, and also give a lot of noise. I know noise is tied to tread pattern too, but not sure to what extent.
Have a look at 1010tires or tirerack, I think both have noise as one of the rated characteristics.
