Oil used in speed3
#2
Planning to use
My speed3 has less than 2000 miles on it, so I'll wait till it gets a little more mileage on it for break-in purposes. Then I plan on using synthetic to provide increased protection for the turbo. I heard that Castrol Syntec is very good.

Point of info., I talked to my dealers service department and they advised me that they don't use break-in oil, it's the regular 5w-30 weight oil. The recommendation is that the first oil change should be done at or before you reach your first 2000 miles. Mine was very black (dirty) at only 1000 miles, so I had it changed. That made me feel much better. Check your oil dip-stick and see how it looks. Lots of luck with your with your Speed3, I know I love mine..

My first oil change I switched to Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic. And I know a lot of people with Speeds who use Mobil1 Synthetic. It's personal choice really. I've had no issues for my 1500 miles on the PP.

Thank you silverms3... I do think that I will be going with the synthetic indeed, when I start mine after it's been off for a while I can here the turbo make a bit of noise... don't last long but it's there... So I think after all your advise synthetic would solve that.

I ordered a case of Royal Purple 5W-30 and as soon as I turn 2000 miles I'm going to change to it. Yes I agree it is not at all difficult to change the cartridge type filter the only thing is that you have to take off the bottom plastic engine shield as the opening in the shield doesn't line up with the filter canister.

I'll include their web site, check them out. www.royalpurple.com

Royal Purple and Amsoil are the best syn oils on the market but since im going to change my oil every 4-5,000 miles i guess Mobil will do.
By the way i read some yrs ago that Amsoil tested one of there oils to
100,000 miles on a test and while the oil was black it did not lose not even
1% oil viscosity.

Hi guys,
Well I used Castrol syntec 5w20 and a purolator one cartridge... Two Mazda mechanics told me that 5w20 works a bit better in Fl... I do not know why
but thats what I went a head and used. Amsoil is very good syn oil indeed!
I may become a Amsoil Dealer on line in future? But hey for now Castrol is good enough. Plus I only paid $4.68 a qt. on sale...

ha ha ... that's exactly what I use. I use castrol syntec and purone filters.
I honestly think that combo is the best you can get the money. There are better oils ... but not anywhere near the price point.
