Speed3 Oil Change

What are the recommendations on what oil to use-??
The dealer says Quaker State 5-30 regular oil...
I personally do not agree with that, what do you all think or what do you all use?

The dealer is correct. See your manual it states 5-30 for turbo'd 3's

Thanks for your in put 1funride I seen the 5-30 so I guess thats not no problem but the gentleman also said do not use synthetic!? Now that did surprise me... I ask him why? But he didn't really have a good answer. I have no problem using the
5-30 regular oil I just figured that the synthetic would be the best? But I'm probably wrong. I never was one for Quaker State either... But things do change.

The brand doesn't matter so much as long as it's API certified. Any major name brand oil will suffice. In my opinion synthetics are only better in that they last longer. Some might argue they have better lubricating properties. Whatever. You can certainly use dinosaur oil in your car. Regular change intervals are the key to long engine life.

And yes changing the oil often does indeed help! I always used to change every 3000 miles including the filter... But I guess these newer car motors can go much further. Some say that even 5000 miles is to early, i guess thats ok I just have to adjust to the new technoigy... The old days 3000 miles was the norm. We just love are speed3 and want to keep it as nice as possible. Gosh it's a 2007 and it just turned over 3000 miles... Again Thanks-!

^^ keep the 3000 interval, especially on a turbo car if you don't just drive it like a grandmother all the time.

I agree with the 3000mile interval as well.

And you can use 5w30 dino oil if you want to.

However, you can use synthetic if you want. I just did my first oil change to synthetic Pennzoil Platinum and I know people with speed6s and speed3s that use Mobil1 Synthetic and have for awhile with no issues/concerns.

I've heard a lot of Mazda techs are confused/scared. Since you absolutely cannot use synthetic in the rotary rx8, they have a fear of advising someone incorrectly.

Someone I know who's been an engineer in the auto industry for a while witnessed an endurance test on an engine using Mobile 1 full synthetic. He said that you could still see the machining marks on the metal after it was all done with. There's a difference between brands as well.

I use full synthetic all the time, so does he, so do a lot of other people I know.

As far as mileage and type. Well, follow the specifications in the manual. Maybe not so much with the break-in time, but I went 3k for my initial change, 4k for the second, and will do 5k intervals after that using full syn.

This changes my mind completely.

I'm not doubting the benefits of synthetics, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with conventional oil for normal driving.

I was being unspecific to protect the engineer and company that he works for (well, he's retiring soon anyway), as to not imply any endorsements.

One of the main advantages that I use pure synthetic for is it's viscosity performance over high and low temperatures. Operating with a turbo in the winter time will make sure my engine and turbo will see both extremes.

I'll agree with you that the average joe doesn't really need full synthetic and would see minor improvements. Heck, it may even be harmful, but I definitely don't drive my car like the average joe...

But if you really want to get **** about it all, you would take your oil filter off and cut it open to analyze any particulates it trapped, as well as sending in the oil for analysis (I've never done this, but my co-workers have).

use amsoil oil - it is the best - I don't have a speed but I bring amsoil to my dealer and they have no problem using my oil - I can watch them too from the waiting room.

I would use amsoil 0w-30 signature series if you car needs 5w-30 - I use 0w-20 for my three and I noticed a couple of gallons better gas mileage going around town and the pour point is -65 degrees. to me that is the most important because when you first start the engine is when you need the lubrication the most.

a real synthetic is much better than dino oil - it will never break down. but it only gets contaminated from the combustion process which may effect it's viscosity.

make sure you use a top tier gasoline and the proper octance that your manual calls for along with using a synthetic oil and change it every 5000 or twice a year you should do a great job at keeping the engine clean and running efficient.

Amsoil? They're so good, they're stuff isn't sold in stores.

I'll continue using Motorcraft brand.

top tier gasoline = excellent if it's available where you live. It isn't in upstate new york, at all.

It is sold in stores, you just have to find a decent store. Motorcraft.. gosh that's scary.
