the normal u.s. market sylvania silverstars aren't brighter, and are stock wattage. Somehow they just burn out way faster than other bulbs.

I had silverstars in my 94 Mazda pickup and they made it 3 years before one went out.

I've seen the silverstar ultras and they just have even more blue paint on them than the normal silverstars. They're really pushing the limit of what is legal.

I'd for sure get Osram Night Breakers instead from http://www.powerbulbs.com/

measured 90% brighter than normal osrams! No ghetto blue tint. They are whiter yes, but only because of how bright they are :P

From what I've heard ... if you have an older car you might have bad sockets and wiring. If you sockets and wiring is good ... I would try using dielectric greese when installing them ... to provide better contact in the socket. But that's my 2 cents. I might be wrong.
Actually, the term "dielectric" means non-conductive, and you are not supposed to even get oil from your fingers on these high temperature bulbs. There is a heat conductive grease made for use under transistors and such, but the threat of contamination would prevent me from using it. YMMV

I use dielectric grease, I also clean the bulb with rubbing alcohol before install. Dielectric grease helps prevents arcing and moisture from getting in.

xtec

Hey,

Those xtec ones ... those look like a solid deal. I just had one of my silverstar ultra's burn out already. They only lasted 4 months ... that sux man for 50 bucks. I'm done with silverstars. Those xtec ones say they come with matching fog lights? Is that true. They give you 2 lowbeams and 2 foglights for 29.95 ... free shipping ... with a lifetime warranty. If that is the case I am definately going to buy those. Are those nice? Have you used those before?

Do you have any pictures?

I currently have Silver Star Ultra's ( Fog's, Lows & Hights ) in my 3. I've had them all installed now for 6 months. Before the Ultra's I had Plain Silver Star's. They burnt out in 5 months. If you read the package they do have a Customer Sat. Warr.. I called Sylvania and they sent me new bulbs... after I sent them the 1 bunt bulb. Give that a try next time... PS. save your stock bulbs just incase!

I'm just sick and tired of replacing bulbs that cost so much twice a year. I should be able to get really nice halogens ... that won't burn out in under 6 months.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I decided that I needed to get them replaced ... so I went to the autoparts store. I think I am going to swear off sylvannia lights.

I remember using hella lights in the past ... I remember them lasting longer than 6 months ... so I figured I would give them a try this time.

I ended up getting:

H83145112 H7 55W Hella xenonblue h7's ... they aren't really blue ... just use blue glass to fool white light. I remember them being nice ... but I will have to give the finally say ... tonight when I install them into my car.
