35w vs 55w HIDs
Hello all!
New to this forum and basically here for a question on behalf of a Christmas gift for the girlfriend's 2010 mazda 3.
She is basically complaining that her stock halogens don't illuminate a high enough output for driving in poorly lit areas at night. I see many of you all have upgraded with DDM Tuning's slim ballast kits with your stock projectors. However I am torn between 35w 5000k's or 55w 6000k's. I want her to see a lot better at night especially in rural areas but I don't want to risk blinding anyone if the 55w is too bright.
So basically to anyone who has a 5000k or 6000k 55w is it overkill? Do you get highbeamed and **** people off when you pass them at night? And to people with 5000k 35w would you want your low beams to be any brighter? Thanks!

I don't own a 3, but if I was to put 55w HIDs in my Protege, it would melt the plastic housings. That's why most use 35w. Less heat.
Either one will be a HUGE upgrade over the stock halogens.

True eggy...i have aftermarket projectors on my eclipse with 55w 10000ks without any problems melting thus far...but every headlight is made a bit differently as far as withstanding heat...thanks for the input tho

I have the 35w DDM Tuning kit with the 6000k bulbs. The light output is Very weak...I cant see a lot at night time.
I was thinking of getting the 55w DDM Tuning kit..
Then this guy I know that knows his lighting stuff told me that the 35w Ballasts are good...I just need to get "Better Quality" HID bulbs like the Morimoto or Phillips brand bulbs.
Hopefully he is right I will be getting a set of Morimoto HID BUlbs soon.
