Battery Life

Does anybody know what the average battery life in the factory batteries for the 3's? I have a 2004 mazda 3 with about 120,000 miles on it. I'm thinking I should change the battery but I've heard that the battery life in the mazda 3's have a long life. Not sure on the truth with that. If I should change the battery, has anyone experienced anything weird with changing it. They are making the DIY tasks a little more difficult nowadays. My fear is screwing up the electrical system in which I've heard happened to someone in another mazda forum. Wondering if it's something I can do with no hassles. Any helpful feedback would be appreciated.

If you go to autozone and some other parts stores they can check the battery while it's in the car.

Went to autozone and not sure if the person testing my battery was doing this right but he said that the plugs were too far down and was causing the grips to slip off and that he was unable to get an accurate reading. Anyone else have this issue? I might try another autozone and see if they can help.

If you take the battery cover off how can they not attach? Sounds wierd to me.

yeah, not sure. I even took the cover off myself. He said the plugs were too far down and wasn't getting a good reading. I saw him struggling to keep clamps on. It could be he did not know what he was doing.
