Drama from hitting a curb...
About a year and a half ago my wife almost got side swiped in the school parking lot by some kid in a Honda. She swerved, hit a curb and f'ed up the front pass. rim. I took it in to get a $60 alignment and found out that the control arms, strut and steering knuckle had to be replaced so I shelled out 7-8 bills. So fast forward a year and we are starting to notice problems with our steering so we take it in and are told that we need to replace the hub bearing assembly. 2 weeks after that I get a set of 4 new tires (since 3 were getting pretty bald @ 20K miles) and the guy putting the tires on notices a grease leak and finds a tear in the front pass. cv boot. Before he puts on the wheel he shows me the tear.
At this point I'm thinkin that the car shop that replaced the hub bearing assembly 2 weeks earlier may have accidentally knicked the boot when they were working on the car so I take it back to them and talk to the guy that worked on my car. They confirmed what I already knew, that I needed a new CV Joint. Mazda only sells the entire axle assembly so I turned to the salvage yard....(after 3 weeks I finally receive it from the 3rd shop that said they would mail it out for $100).
Well yesterday I went to go install the part. When I took off the rotor I saw enough grease to fill a small zip lock bag. I cleaned all the grease off and I sat there with a mechanic for 15 minutes visually inspecting the CV boot and could not find a tear.
I don't understand how the tear could just disappear???? I looked at every mm of the boot... I saw it perfectly when I was at the tire shop a while ago. I'm wondering if the shop (the second time I took it in) just replaced the boot without telling me? They had the car at their shop the entire day while I was at work.
I'm going to be driving from Washington State to Atlanta next weekend so I just threw the new part in my trunk with my tool box in case something happens. (the car drives fine, no clicking noise right now so I will keep my eyes and ears open for trouble).
Anyways, just bored at work thought I'd vent.

Same thing happened to my Mazda. The auto tranny was slipping like crazy, over revving before shifts, missing shift point etc.
Brought it in to Mazda, they kept it for the day, told me nothing was wrong and car tested fine, charged me $45 to inspect the thing.
Went to drive it, all problems gone. They had to have done something, but why would they only charge $45 for actual work?
Never figured that out, and transmission problems have never come back (over a year ago).

I feel your pain
Hey same thing happened to me, but I got very lucky...healed it's self. After no sleep for almost two days our black lab who had cancer died. I had dug a 4 feet hole on our property and had a proper funeral for a memeber of our family. Anyways me and the girlfriend went to get a bite to eat in suburbia hell. You know strip malls all not connected with lots of curbs. Some Hillbilly with 40 different Nascar stickers on his Cavalier pulling out in the middle and turn the wrong direction. I cut short and thought I cleared the end of the corner curb. I hit it with the front and then heard the bottom followed by the rear tire. I got out to my suprise expecting the worst picture in my head and -No scratched rims no damaged side skirt just light niks on the bottom. I have sense had it up on a lift and you have to look for it. It drives straight. I am a good driver but needed a mental health day. peace
