M3 2.0 Engine Failure (my first post)

Hi everyone this is my first post.

Just wondering if I am the only one with 2.0 engine failure? I went to my dealer today because my car was making a ticking noise, and to do a regular oil change. 5 minutes later the service advisor tells me hes not doing an oil change. "Your car needs a new engine."

Apparently the timing went out or something and the pistons were hitting the valves. Other than sounding like a diesel the car drove fine. So I'm getting a new engine under warranty (thank god for MAP).

Has anyone else had this problem? Or is it just my driving style? please share thoughts

Hi there.I drive an 04 mazda 3 sport gt with the 2.3.Im in the same boat as you.My car was working great, pulled into a drive thru and thats when the knocking came from nowheres!5 minutes later its on a flatbed now sitting in a garage.......dead.My problem is there isnt a whole lot of replacement 2.3 engines in Canada. My closest one is 300 miles away and 2500 plus shipping, plus they want the old one!The good news for you is the 2.0 are a third the price and seem to be alot.So in this long winded response i guess what im saying is' i wouldnt blame your driving habbits,i baby my car and to have the same catastrophic failure as someone who drove the snot of the car sucks!!!!!But i will fix my car because i do love it!

That sucks dude, is your car out of warranty? if so how much would it cost for the engine swap at a dealer? mine wont tell me.

my driving habits are pretty bad I always redline the thing every chance i get. but the engine was fine until 130,000 K. thats when it started burning oil. like 5 liters between oil changes.

then the ticking started. . .

oh well, i sure hope my new engine will last longer if i baby it, but from what you tell me, it might not be me.
