RX-7: In late 2003, a new fourth-generation RX-7 will appear. Although virtually forgotten in North America, the RX-7 continues to return respectable sales figures in Japan. With this in mind (and an eye towards kick-starting exports), Mazda has a new car coming on line. The normally aspirated two-rotor Wankel engine from the RX-8 will power the redone two-seat coupe.
Mazda has done a good job of protecting details of the new RX-7. There are two stories circulating, one of which is said to have been planted by Hiroshima to maintain suspense for the new car. The information alleged to have been planted indicates that the next-generation car will maintain the floorplan of the current car, re-jigged to share some RX-8 and next-generation Miata suspension components, as well as the 250bhp powertrain from the RX-8. The other plan (rumored to be much closer to the mark) is that the new RX-7 will ride of a version of the Miata-RX-8 platform sized between the two other models. To ensure product stratification, the RX-7 will exist solely as a coupe, and the Miata will continue as an open car.

its here
its here
here is where the post is at
you have to go down quite abit,
to part 2b
its from an article that a reporter wrote after being selected to go see a press hearing of mazdas or something liek that, no cameras allowed so it was pretty confidential on mazdas part....hope this is tru
as for them releasign both models at the same time
RX-7 is basically SPORT CAR,,, and thats it, 2 seats, rx-7 body
RX-8 is more economical, even though it is still sport, it has 4 seats etc etc.
its like saying...why do they produce the mx-3, mx-5, and mx-6 hehe

damn damn damn....
and i got so happy too, oh well, what can you do, I'll just stick to buying my 3rd gen for now, then do a 20B conversion, and I'll be set for now, hehe, .... even though that won't be for at least 5 years
thanks for clearing that up for me
hopes so high of seeing a new rx-7 near the end of next year, but oh well, as long as they do bring out another rx-7 in the following 10 years lol

For those of you who subscribe to Road & Track, cna pick up thier latest issue and read the Ampresand. In it they have a very large sneak peak at what is coming out from various car manufactures in years to come. One of the plans was an RX-7. That's right. It is going to be similar looking to RX-8, but it is going to be stricktly a 2 seater, and not buts about it. And it is going to be fast!!!

you guys are smoking crack...I work for Ford and all Mazda's releases come to me on FCN(Ford Company News)...the last release I got was that the latest rx-7 is th LAST rx-7 and is only being released in Japan..here you go....HIROSHIMA, Japan, March 28, 2002 -- Mazda Motor Corporation has announced the
launch of three models in the RX-7 Spirit R line, a limited-production series of the RX-7
rotary engine sports car. As the final production series of the RX-7, the Spirit R
series goes on sale April 22 at Mazda Anfini and selected Mazda dealerships throughout
Japan.
The third-generation RX-7, first
launched in 1991, has a particularly
distinctive exterior design. Its
lightweight, compact and
high-output rotary engine enables
the driver to feel superb driving
pleasure. Epitomizing Mazda's
spirit of sports car, RX-7 has won
popularity among the customers
since its 1978 launch. Mazda
envisions the production of the
current RX-7 model (FD-3S) to
come to an end in August 2002.
The Spirit R series is available in three models: the Type A, a two-seater with a five-speed
manual transmission; the Type-B, a four-seater with a five-speed manual transmission; and
the Type-C, a four-seater with a four-speed automatic transmission. All three models are
equipped with common interior and exterior features, such as BBS-manufactured 17-inch
wheels, red brake calipers, and interior panels with a special soft coating, while each model
shows off its own equipment to make a difference from the other.
The Type-A Spirit R is a two-seater model fitted with the Recaro-made exclusive red full
bucket seats. These lightweight seats reduce the overall chassis weight of the vehicle by
approximately 10 kg. Braking performance is enhanced through the use of large drilled
type ventilated disk brakes for all four wheels and high rigid stainless mesh brake hoses.
The Type-A Spirit R model is the ultimate RX-7, boasting the most outstanding driving
performance in its history.
Applicable to any model of the Spirit R, five outer panel colors including Titanium Gray
Metallic are available.
1,500 units of the RX-7 'Spirit R' series will be sold only in Japan.

well if its coming out or not
I think the best design would be
to stick with the RX-7 2002 Spirit R design
That would be the best body, well basically I'm saying stick with the 3rd gen body
Stick in a 3 rotor renesis engine, and add a sequential twin turbo system into it hehe. , that gives us a chance to add a bigger single turbo if we really want to mod it later on in life.
stick in a 6 spd manual tranny, and i think we'd be set
lol but seriously, they have to at least take the normal renesis and add some type of turbo system to it, preferably twin turbo to stick with the rx-7 stock style hehe
so I'm saying that the next RX-7 should come with 350 - 400 HP stock, even though they'll understate it by 100hp to 280hp lol , or all we'll have to do is liek unplug some type of restrictor that will let it get ts full potential, hehe
My hopes are pretty high, but well thats just me

ahem, since we're all blowing smoke up our a$$e$ (with the exception of macdaddy's press release ), here's my rambling BS :
first of all, that press release only confirmed the END OF THE 3RD GEN RX-7 PRODUCTION (aka FD3S). It does not confirm nor deny the possibility of a next generation RX-7 (FE?) in the future. No one knows for sure if it will ever come out, so all we can do is speculate, and HOPE that the RX-8 sells well enough that they will CONSIDER bringing out the hypothetical next generation RX-7.
and as for what should this hypothetical RX-7 look like? I actually want them to WOW me with a design so sleek and advanced that it's 10 years ahead of its competition (similar to what the FD did when it came out). It would be REALLY BAD if Mazda just took the design of FD, throw on a few extra body claddings, and call it the next generation RX-7.
I think that's the end of my daily bullshitting

Someone else posted there's info about it in the current R&T. Here's a copy of what was said.
"Mazda mulls RX-7 rebirth, Miata makeover
Although the last (Japan-only) RX-7 is scheduled to come off the assembly line this month, plans are underway at Mazda to create a replacement, so says a source close to the company. The future 2-seater, which may go by a new name, will be built on the RX-8's platform and make 280 bhp from the Renesis rotary engine without the help of forced induction.
With this new entry, Mazda will have a three-tier sports-car lineup, something that the company has long wanted. But the fate of this 2-seater rests largely on the success of the RX-8, the company's 4-door sports car due out in February. If the RX-8 falls flat on its face, don't expect a new RX-7 of any other sports car, with the exception of the Miata, any time soon.
And for those who have been waiting for Mazda to build a rotary-powered Miata, you'll have to wait a little longer. Although Mazda will build an MPS (Mazda Performance Series) version of the current Miata for the Japan market only, that car will be powered by a 180- to 200-bhp 1.8-liter inline-4.
But the next-generation Miata, due in 2004 or 2005, will have a rotary option. Look for power to be about 200 to 250 bhp, giving the roadster zero-to-60 mph times in the 5.0-second range. The car will be built on a shortened version of the RX-8's platform, and may come in both coupe and convertible forms."
