Anyone SERIOUSLY interested in a big trip?
I've been thinking a lot about it lately and I'm going to take a trip overseas. I was talking with Ken about it and I was just thinking that other people may be interested in going as well. Here's what I was thinking.
Tokyo Japan
6 days 7 nights (using these dates as a rough estimate 2-17/2-24)
Staying in a 3.5 star hotel 40 miles outside tokyo OR staying at a 2star hotel in the city. (cost is the same but may be cheaper to stay in city due to travel costs...the 2star place is pretty cheap though)
Everyone would need to arrange their own airfare since they'd be coming from different cities. If we could agree on a place to stay we could negotiate a much better hotel rate.
As a rough estimate of what it would cost I shopped around for 2 people to leave from B'ham international airport, get roundtrip tickets and stay outside tokyo for a week at a cost of $905 each. Costs to fly will be different depending on where you're flying from so it could go up but people on the west coast should have much lower costs.
My original plans were to stay in the nicer hotel outside the city and rent a scooter for the week and drive it everywhere since it's much cheaper than a taxi or rental car.
If this actually gets some intrest IO can get with my travel agent to set up some good locations to visdit and things to do while we're there.
Is anyone interested in doing something like this within the next 2-4 months?
p.s. Don't forget to bring an extra $400-1000 for spending money. Stuff is pricey over there and the US dollar is a little weak right now. I'll probably take about $750 and only buy 1-2 souveniers.

Sounds like a blast...but all my extra cash is tied up in this year's BIG TRIP. My friend (whom I lent the Miata to) has been to Japan several times on business and he said it's great, although expensive at times. One of these days I'm going to do a tour of Asia....

And I thought this would have been a road trip with our Mazdas.
I would rather go to any southern european country first, so I will pass on offer.
Thanks anyway.
