Can You Believe This Crap? (Scion)
Okay, I just got through surfing around at the new "Scion" site, and I can't physically believe how ridiculous their two pictured cars look. The planned "Box" car, as noted in another short thread here on the forum, has to be the gayest new car I've ever seen. It blows me away that anyone, anywhere, let alone Toyota executives, actually think this is a cool car.
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I've been blown away by the design of cars these days. The new Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe? Gay. The Mitsubishi Lancer? Retarded. The **** that Susuki is going to start selling around here; that Aerio thing? Defication.
Maybe I'm a bit old school-- Is anyone else wondering what the hell is going on?
Now, the Mazda6-- THAT'S what I call a cool new car, in my opinion.
Anyway, sorry to vent-- It just looks to me like people are running out of design ideas, so they've moved on to the "Gay" section, and it just doesn't make any sense.

yep...who would have figured....I remember back A LONG TIME AGO....when the CONCEPT cars were "the cars of the 80's"....AND all of them were increcibly sleek...very futuristic....some seriously nice cars....and then we got there...and what the hell did they produce? NOTHING BUT BOXES....all these Mercedes, squared off P's O. S. !!! so go figure out a designer/executives head for these things.....it just don't make sence....
at least the car market today has a lot of nice looking cars to pick from. IF you have the green. :{D

Oh, I definately agree. When I heard that Toyota is goign to produce cars for youth - Scion, I was kinda excited, but when I saw them introduced at the New York International Autoshow, I was disgusted! Really, wtf were they thinking? And then agian, it just seems that ugly cars are jumping into production quickly, then the people who designed are getting fired. Aztek, and its Buick twin - will never turn any profit. Echo - is for dwarfs and midgets (no offense, I am 6'7"). I do not know what this world is coming to!

Noooooo! :)
Noooooo! Heheheh...
Well, I respect your thoughts regarding the Lancer, but I just don't like the looks of that thing:

It's definately not even close to the worst out there, but in terms of reliability and appearance, the P5 is waaay better, imo.
And good call about the Aztek! I totally should have mentioned that-- That car has to come in second behind the new Scion Box as the ugliest new car today.

I think that Bob Lutz has been employed as President or CEO of GM, it has begun to regain ground in terms of styling direction again. Examples include the new Pontiac Solstice roadster and the Grand Prix concept. Both are devoid of the characteristic plastic body cladding, and both looks very good and sporty in my opinion.
GM has also followed suit to Ford, by hoping to acheive success but introducing European subsiduaries' design, philosophy and components into American cars. The Focus is a good example, the main reason it is such a success is because it has personality, characterized by its styling (I'm not saying it looks good), handling and chassis and drivability (albeit undertuned) inspired by European cars. GM following this suit has based the Cadillac CTS on the Opel Omega? chassis underpinnnings, and has also intorduced the Ecotec engine as based on Opel components. Because lets face it, the average European car is better engineered than the average American one.
This new direction taken by car companies have also allowed for more parts sharing and the facilitation of ideas and design globally which will inevitably result in better cars for us, the consumer, whilst saving money and creating larger profits for car companies.
Everything is in good hands.

I dunno what the hell that thing is in that picture you showed dude, but its not the Lancer that I saw in my apartment complex. This one was sweet as hell, it was yellow, and had much nicer skirts and a wing. And it came from the dealer like that cause it still had the temp permit, and no license plate and ****. It was brand new, and it was fresh as hell. I wanted to go see if the dude would trade me cars.

Hey, leungwingkei. I would disagree with you about the GM situation. Yes, Lutz just came in and began impressing me a lot with his work. Though GM over all still lacks image. For example GMC/Chevy trucks, Pontiac and Buick have image. You can unmistakenly tell either of those from other manufacturers. Though Chevy models have all gone to different roads. I mean Cavalier, Metro, Malibu, Monte Carlo, Prism, and Impala share nothing in their image. GM does use many shared components, but does not know how to hide well enough to tell the cars apart. I would not even mention Aztek and its Buick twin. I here by declare Pontiac Aztek the ugliest car of all time. Chevy should have payed more attention to Camaro, which is now gone. Eldorado, gone (should have been redesigned). Oldsmobile should have been simply renamed. The line up was great, but who would buy an OLDSmobile? What about new Caddys. Escalade XLT, CTS, XLR. First what the hell are those abbriviations. Secondly, did you hear that GM in order to compete with BMW M5, is going to stick LS6 engine from Z06 into the new CTS sedan? That is absurd. There is nothing but negative feedback about the new CTS, inside or oudside, no matter how it drives. And what about the reintoduction of Pontiac GTO as rebadged Australian Holden Monaro? I do not think that people will react nicely to that. Though otherwise I agree with you. GM has done a good job bringing in good concept cars. And Lutz has changed the way GM has been developing them, thus bring hot new cars into production faster.
P.S. 50th Anniversary Corvette looks real nice!
