Defensive Driving Classes Suck *****!

I have just finished my second defensive driving class since getting my license. I like that you can get the ticket off your record with it (stupid hick that wrote it on X-Mas eve can kiss my ***) but it is cruel and unusual punishment to make someone sit in front of such inane and useless banter about all of the common sense stuff every driver better know before they turn on the ignition. Maybe they should weed the idiots before they get the license rather than trying to slip the stuff into their brains later. Some of the highlights:

1. Did you know it is illegal to drink and drive? After an hour or so of listening to their BS about it I do.

2. Texas has a law against littering. And guess what? There are volunteers that pick up litter. Another 30-45 minutes.

3. You can donate your organs!

4. Seatbelts save lives!!!!!! (Honestly, I thought they were torture devices meant to cut you in half in an accident).

After 6 hours of that bullshit I finally finished and took the test in less than 2 minutes for a 100%. Didn't learn a damn thing and haven't changed my driving habits since getting the ticket and won't be changing them tomorrow. What a waste of time.

Another stupid rule they teach you in driving schools; Check your tires, and under the car for leaks everytime you start your car.

Like who the **** has time for this everytime the car is started. Commute time would double for me. Thing's don't leak over a night for no reason.

Oh the good ol memories of Driving School...wait a minute...that was the biggest WASTE of 2 full days of my LIFE!!! They kept rambling on about safety and what you guys already posted, as well as fuel economy and how you should "properly warm your car up". That was the biggest load of crap I have ever heard, not to mention the biggest waste of money, however, I took it because insurance drops by like 60% if I do, along with my good marks

Never been to one. Is there any actual driving involved, or just paperwork?

Not in Texas. You just spend a minimum of 6 hours watching videos, reading, and discussing if you are in a class. I took this one online but taking it in a class is almost as boring (unless it is one of the comedy ones I guess). Having driving involved would make sense, otherwise nobody is going to learn.

wow it takes them 6 hours to tell you that....here in FL it only takes 4!!! I especially like when they feed you the bullshit that police are on the highway for "my protection." Seems like they only show up to **** up my day. But when there's a friggin 10 car accident, they can't show up slow enough.

The course in NY is also 6 hours - but my insurance guy breezes through it in about 2 hours and kicks everyone out.

Here - take your certificate, get your insurance discount, and have a good night.

SO, what you are saying is....that it was such a HUGE waste of YOUR time that you would rather have paid the fine for speeding and watched your insurance rates go up for the next three years or so?

hmmmmmm to me....I will pick sitting through the dribble many times over to avoid those alternatives...and consider myself LUCKY to be able to do so. Sure, I can think of something much better to do with 6 hours of a good saturday....but....I can also think of a LOT of things I would rather do with MY MONEY than give it to the frickin insurance company...

Like Tony Baretta use to say..." IF YOUR GONNA DO THE CRIME....YOU'RE GONNA DO THE TIME"

this tells me that either your insurance guy either has BIG *****...or you don't have state inspectors that sign up for the classes like normal students like we do here in texas....and IF the instructors cut the classes short....they (the driving school) lose their licenceh....and that means their total driving school business goes out the window....PLUS they get a HUGE fine.

not really worth it just to try to be a nice guy.

More that I think that if they are going to make me spend 6 hours in something then it should at least be something that will teach me to drive better rather than try and push a bunch of BS down my throat that I already know. I don't want my rates to go up, but I think it is a severely messed up program. I would have rather had deferred adjudication but the hick city I got pulled over in (Gorman, peanut capital of Texas, where they write tickets for 5 over the limit to fill quotas) does not offer it.
