Digital Cameras
for those of you that have and use digital cameras, what are you using and why did you pick that one? i am looking into buying one with my tax return / bonus this year, and i am trying to find one that has some good features, looks good, and won't cost a fortune.
currently, i'm looking at the fuji finepix 4900.
thanks for your thoughts.

I bought the Canon G1. It was a bit expensive but now that the G2 is out it should be cheaper. It has good zoom, about 8 different picture modes, QT videos, blah blah blah, everything I can think of that belongs on a camera.
What I really love about it is that I can go auto where it chooses all the settings or I can have full control of the shutter speed, aperature and focus. So if it is an indoor action shot I can select a larger aperature, faster shutter speed and manually set the focus for a certain spot in space.(I train and compete in track & field so people are always moving too fast for an auto focus) Then when they run by that spot, push the button and you have a good action shot
Also, it takes normal compact flash memory cards or the second gen cards like the IBM Microdrive(1 GB). That is a nice thing to know.

I have a Olympus d-450 zoom. It's the older olympus digital camera, I got it for my high school graduation present. I got it because it was the best value back then (cost/features). It's a great camera. The newer olympuses have USB, that's alot better than serial. Can't go wrong with olympus

i got the canon s-30......the reason i chose that camera is because its small enough to put in your pocket and the lens isn't exposed unlike the G1....has a nice 10X zoom on it too
here is a pic i recently took with it

Canon makes good cameras. The lense of the G1 isn't really exposed though. Like any SLR or whatever it has a lens cap.
I've played with the s-30, a friend of mine has one. They are so small, it's great.

Dude. The Fuji Finepix 4900 rox. They have it here at work, and I borrow it whenever I plan to go do something over the weekend or when I work on my car. I landed up buying a 128mb SM card so that I could take a large amount of good pics without having to use my laptop too often.
BTW, did anyone see that article about using a digital camera to take movies from -outside- your car while driving (they used heavy-duty suction camera mount)? I forget what mag it was in... It was in one of the ricer mags. No offense there to anyone there about the ricer mags

I have a canon S30 as well. Its awesome. Bought it because of all the features. i know you said you used it but here is the official site:
http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/s40-30/index.html
i never leave home with out it now. Take pictures all the time. When i bought it at best they had a deal that if you buy a 128MB card then you got a usb reader free, so i got that. I don't plug the camera into the computer, just put the card in the reader. It acts just like any other removable media drive. That is a must have accesorie in my opinion. I also will be getting the water proof case since i scuba dive. Check out www.tristatecamera.com
they have good prices on everything.

Like IslandPro I have the Sony FD-85....and not only does it record its images in JPEG...and not only can you take MPEG movies with it too...the feature that sold me on the SONY's was that you do NOT need to hook a cable up to a computer and download the images....you don't use MEMORY STICKS>..you pop a standard 3.5 floppy disc in the side of it and take off....then you just pop the floopy in your "A" drive and open the images with what ever software you use to work on or view images with...simple as that....AND if you are wanting to take massive amounts of pictures...and you don't want to take a bunch of discs with you...sony does sell an adapter that sorta looks like a standard disc, its about $80, and you can put one of their memory sticks in that, and use it like normal.....and even pop it in your "A" drive at home and presto-chango you are in business. Like I said...NO additional sepcial download software....no cables...just pop and go! the pictures you have seem me post here in the borads have all beed taken with that camera.
