The problem is that you are judged by the way you present yourself - and given the medium, the only way people can get a good understanding for one another is essentially via the written word.

Who are we to judge people?...
Especially off of something as insignificant as a post off a forum.
I am not going to base my views about someone and judge them negatively just because they made a typo or because they misspelled a word. We do not know what type of problems they have. Like this Thread: This person is deaf. It's a shame he had to let the board know his situation so you guys could stop flamming him.
Or the person can have some type of learning disorder.
Even if the person didn't graduate from HS or get his GED, are you going to think lowly of him? So, it makes you better than everyone else because you are fortunate enough to know how to read and write? or spell better than someone else?

Yeah, but when people use their grammar shittily in posts, it makes them seem MUCH less intelligent.
and improper use of "to too and two" or "there, they're and their" just indicates that the "poaster" is under the age of 15

It was driving me crazy not knowing what that meant!!
As far as correct grammar/spelling goes...
I was an English major in college, and currently I'm a reading teacher. And guess what...sometimes I miss my mistakes, too. We are all human.
Yes, sometimes other folks' persistent and obvious errors grate on my nerves, but I've learned to read past a lot of that stuff just so I can get the meaning of the message, which is a hell of a lot more important than the difference between "to/two/too."
And the person who mentioned learning disabilities is absolutely correct...you never know who might have issues with that.
We all need to get over ourselves.

Spelling and grammar **** really pisses me off too for some reason, but I don't really give two ***** so I just keep my trap closed. By the time I take the time to make a post about it I can usually figure out what the **** they're trying to say.

Whats sad is that some of you are trying to make excuses why you have poor grammar and spelling.(unless you have a legit reason)
Most of us are past high school, yet we need to make reasons why its alright NOT to have these elementary skills....
whats this world coming to...
