Question Formula for gas mileage

I understand this is a simple question, but for some reason it has always alluded me. What is the formula for figuring out the MPG of a car. I've put about 5 tanks of gas in my P5 and kept records of the mileage and how much gas so now I want to figure out my MPG.

You'll have to reset your trip meter in order to see exactly how much you've driven beteen tanks. Take that number and divide by the amount of fuel that you put into the car. The result is your MPG.

Miles/gallons=MPG

I don't reset the trip meter, but I write down the odometer reading each time I fill up so I can figure out the mileage between fill ups.

I would say I'm more interested in keeping a record of the total miles at each fill up then the milage between fill ups. Just as I do for maitinence and mods(well, on my other cars, I havn't had this one long enough to even do maitinence yet.) This shows when things happen in the lfe of the car.

Fill up your tank, reset your trip meter. Drive till you need gas again. Fill up tank. Get out trusty pen and paper, dvide miles driven by gallons put into the tank and that will give you the mpg.

example
350/10.5=33.3

On average I get 550 kms for every 55 L of fuel. Could someone convert that into miles and gallons for me? I got no clue

Dude - your numbers make no sense.

550 Km on 55 L of gas? That's 10 km/L, or just over 6 miles per gallon. Are you driving a Protege or a Peterbilt?

Check your numbers. And you can do the conversions here: www.onlineconversion.com

Car Maintenance software to log down fuel costs, fuel mileage, repairs, repair costs, car info, payment info, etc.

Comes built-in with some pretty neat reports so you can do some trend analysis (very helpful when tracking fuel mileage).

Regards,

Oz

P.S. You have to be consistent in order to get consistent results.

Thanks for the link

55 Litres= 14.529463 Gallons [US Liquid]
or
55 liter = 12.098309 gallons [UK]

550 Kilometers = 341.754156 Miles

341.754/14.53 = 23.5 Miles per Gallon
or
341.75/12.1 = 28.24 Miles per Gallon

Don't know how you got 6 miles per gallon

I think I took the 55L, into 550 km, got 10 km/L - then just converted that to miles.

Yah - that was some bad math on my part. I should've known better than that. I think I had one of those "moments of stupidity" we all get occasionally - some of us more than others

But glad you got the calcualtions anyway.
