Game Console vs. Computer Games
#17
LOL well lets see, Xbox vs computer
umm well an xbox IS a computer just scaled down both hardware and software (Xbox uses a choped up windows 2000 kernel)
and a computer is... the REAL thing so i would go with a computer. its upgradable too!
xbox's are limited in picturequality according to your TV, most comptuer monitors today (CRT not LCD) will do more than 1600x1200x32 @ 0.25dpi @ 85Hz which is better than almost every TV incl. HDTV.
the interface for the computer is limitless, there are far more inputs for the comptuer than any gamming console.
UT 2K3 looks FAR better on a computer than the xbox, the computer version supports like 32-64 players?
the only thing i can think of that the console has over the computer is games, IE you can't get GT, GT2, GT3 for computer or even Halo for that matter.

Don't forget about the PS2s network adapter. I play ATV Offroad Fury 2 every now and again. I just got the adaptor early this week. I need to get more people with the game and the adapter though. I need to pick up SOCOM and start playing with some friends. Good stuff!

As for pr5owner:
1.) I spent $240 on the Xbox, how much did you spend on your computer that provides the same level of graphics? Yeah, I thought so.
2.) I can play many games that will never see the light of day on the PC.
3.) I can turn the Xbox INTO a PC at will.
4.) UT 2k3 doesn't look any better on the computer than it does on my HDTV. Sorry. And the xbox version supports just as many players as the pc version.
5.) 1600x1200x32 on 19 inch monitor looks better than 1080i on my 65-inch Sony HDTV? I like big things, do you?

Exactly. On the Xbox, there's a matchmaking service so you don't need to "find" anybody. You go online and it finds people for ya.

gameplay IS everything
hence the popularity of real-time strategery games like Starcraft/Warcraft and action RPGs like Diablo1 & 2. Graphic-wise they are nowhere close to the true 3D games like the FPS games, but they still sell well because they are FUN TO PLAY.
me? I mostly play PC games now because I'm too cheap to buy a PS2 or XBOX

Take a look at this aspect. Currently to have one more person to play on a PC, that individual would have to have a computer. If you want to get together, have some pizza and play some games...sorry folks I do not find it enjoyable hauling a computer around with me.
Currently most Console systems has 4 player inputs. Attach 2 more consoles together through a 50 dollar hub and you you have 12 people playing a multiplayer game speaking smack while getting together to have some fun.
Currently we have a projector screen going plus 2 TV's in our living room playing HALO...
Now this is fun!!

Don't forget sound too. There are all those new dolby digital sound systems for pcs, get those things out of here. They are just the little satellite tweeters with a sub. Halo on a 36" Sony Vega using component video, and a Denon reciever using Dolby Digital 5.1 with 6 full size speakers including a 12" 300watt subwoofer is about as cool as it gets.
The X-box isn't as good as newer pcs at all though. As mentioned before Unreal 3 on a X-box looks no where near as good as on a decent gaming rig. My laptop runs GTA 3 better than a PS-2 as well. And also by getting a console you don't completely beat slow down problems. Halo on an X box will slow down in multiplayer if just one person gets in a vehicle. Plus the replays in Project gotham racing are always getting choppy.
