hydorplaining sucks
just got back from a 1600 mile drive (round trip). yesterday i got caught in a severe rainstorm about 200 miles north of dallas. it was so bad we had to pull over twice because i couldn't see the road. there were several inches of water on the road (texas roads don't drain worth a ****), when we started going up a small hill. we were only doing about 45mph with a huge semi on our tail, when all of the sudden the rpm's went to about 6000 and the spedo said spmething like 80mph, but the car wasn't going any faster. luckily we didn't have a wreck. but the pucker factor was real high. i guess it's time to look into some aquatreads. lol

It does suck
*when all of the sudden the rpm's went to about 6000 and the spedo said spmething like 80mph* LOL
I know friends who got cars they dont care about, they speed up real fast in big puddles and hydroplain on purpose hehehehe.

had something similar happen to me years ago, but just south of dallas....I was headed home the morning after a car show/swap meet/ races....and it was pouring....but the little car I was in had RWD....and the speedo was driven off of the front left wheel (VW), and the front lifted off the ground.....had GREAT tires...just the front is so light....the speedo dropped to about 40.....as the tires started to slow down....and then when it set down it popped right back up to 60!.....damn....you are so right....talk about the pucker factor! lol I thought I almost sucked a small part of my seat out! lol of course I immediately slowed down to about 50 till I got past the hard rain.....

First time I hydroplaned was in the summer. Highway 35/115 in Ontario. I knew what hydroplaning was, what happens what the causes were etc, but had never had it happen to me before so I didn't know what it felt like to actually happen if you dig what I'm trying to say..
I was just driving along and My engine started to rev higher, it was raining pretty heavy and I was doing about 110 I hear the engine rev and the needle went up but I wasn't going any faster and then it went down, and then up again, it happened a couple times I didn't really even think anything of it for some reason but my friend in the passenger seat said "you handled that hydroplaning rather well" And I said "is that what that was?''

what is hydroplaning? is that like when u go through a puddle and your steering wheel gets sucked to one side? the side with less traction?
also how does higher revs = higher speedo?
I sometimes like to induce loss of friction turning onto wet on-ramps and watch the revs rise to about 5500 before i ease out the front to get traction but I never notice the speedo rising......

NOW, if you are in a rear wheel drive car........and just your front wheels hydroplane, which is usually ALWAYS the case....none of the above happens....you just lose control of the car.

i remember one of my first encounter with hydroing, comming home from school and was raining pretty hard and i had to go through a twisty road so i came up on a turn and turned but the car was going stright, i freaked and tryed the brakes which is pointless, but after i left off the brakes the tires grabed and she swung round, missin the shoulder by like cms or inches for you americans, after that i drove like 15 all the way home and didnt drive for like a week lol i have since had a respect for the rain soaked roads and my speed

Ye My Pro hydroplaned while i was chillin with some friends one night...we all made a turn....the pro turned like 30 degrees...then just went straight....... I'm like **** **** ****....it was sliding right for a pole......I dunno how...but i was able to move it next to the pole and the car went up onto the curb....
Both front wheels burst....
I had tried braking and all but they didn't work...and it kept on hydroplaning after i released the brakes..... we were making the turn at only like 30 - 40 kph
thats my first experience with hydroplaning...... Back den i didn't know anythign about drifting....and all these advanced techniques of driving i know now
(this happened back in june - july)

Supposedly the 35 part that goes to Lindsay is going to be turned into a 4 lane soon. Hopefully they start after I'm done school because I hate construction.
I also hate the fact that it can be a real pain in the *** to pass anyone on that highway because of the blind hills, and oncoming traffic.
