i let the family down....

when i bought a mazda i broke a good 20 years of family tradition. my folks have been driving fords forever and rat bastard that i am i had to go buy a mazda.

i'm such a rat bastard. they were fully expecting me to buy a ford fugly (focus) i think. a little shocked when they saw the P5. mind you, they agreed that it was a nicer car once they took a good look at it and went for a ride.

can you be the black sheep of the family when you're an only child?

yeah, we were in a similar situation - my gf's dad is ALL Ford...
But,
1) the Foci are "hecha en Mexico" - how does this contribute to the American workforce?

2) Geez - how many known mechanical defects and recalls has the Focus had? 7 or so...

Besides, you don't seem like a sheep of any flavor (black, blue or otherwise), since you didn't "follow" trends/traditions but instead made your own decision. In that regard, you are at least, a sheep dog, running circles (Thanks to Protege) around the herd (of Aspiring Foci).

My dad was pissed that I bought:

A. A new car: "You're wasting your money!" (he's never owned a new car in his life)

B. A foreign car: "You're taking away jobs from Americans!"

Funny, though--he's more than willing to have me drive him around in my awful, new, foreign car.

A: I'm afraid to get a new car, LOL, I want mine pre-scratched, that way I won't cry when it gets scratched the first time!!!

B. My 1990 toyota camry was made in Indiana!!!

That's exactly why I think both my mom and dad prefer used to new cars...so they don't have to have a fit the first time something happens.

I really didn't care about that...this was going to be my first car, and so I wanted a new one. And yes, it has scratches on it now...but I've tried not to cry too much

ford sucks!

and it doesn't matter if ford owns mazda because as long as they don't touch the cars they make - everything is good!...i know ford makes the trucks for mazda but they don't touch the cars so it's all good!!!

Ford touches anything it wants to at Mazda. And Ford Does not suck. they have some of the best cars on the road for the money. Sure the BMW is better but it cost more. If you wish to talk quality well the Ford has higher marks than VW, but everyone thinks thier cars Are so well made. "Hey I see your Jetta's in the shop again. Good thing you didn't get that Camry, Jeff at the repair shop has three kids to feed".

Thats been pising me off too. VW/Audi has a horrible repair record and a boat load of dip **** think they are the best cars on the road. At least with Honda guys they can relisticly say its a well built car but VW is simply garbage. BUt Ford does suck. They also have a terible repair record and they have some of the worst service departments.
