I need to vent about lights.

I need to vent about lights.
I know it is somewhat dark out these mornings until DST kicks in. Anyhoo, drive with your lights ON in the morning! If your not sure if you should turn them on, a good indication is, if the street lights are on, then it is dark enough that not everone can see you. Ahhhhh! I am so choked, there is no point to having them off, even having the control on the stalk to turn them off. It's a safety thing. I was merging into a lane, and could not see the car that was slightly behind me. They had their parking lights on but, that did no good cause there was snow covering them. What the hell is the point??? Anyway, turn the damn things ON so the guy in the front AND back of the car can see you. It makes no sense not to have them on. Sorry, I need to vent, cause I have noticed all kinds of LAZY-a$$ things like that that we do quite frequently, after the t-bone accident I had in Edmonton last year, I have noticed the bad habits of ours this then. I was in a coma for 3 weeks, destroyed my rental, and have lost (and tried to regain) so much. So PLEASE do what you can to make the roads safer. I apolagize once again if nobody cares, I just need to vent. Thanks for listening.

I have a different vent about lights...
STOP ADDING THEM TO YOUR CAR. IT CAME WITH THAT MANY FROM THE FACTORY FOR A REASON.
Washer leds, underbody neon, tire cap leds, interior neon...

And turn the freakin HIGH BEAMS off!!!!!
I swear one day when I'm feeling suicidal I'm going to swerve into someone with their high beams on.
And I hate driving at night and then at last second realizing that someone doesn't have their lights on. Happened many times, I know what you mean

I wish there was an aftermarket gizmo similar to what our Suzuki GV has - an infrared sensor on the dash that turns the headlights on when it's "dark" out.
It has a few seconds delay on it so the lights don't flicker on and off when you drive through shadows. (However, if you drive in the shade of trees along a roadway for more than a few seconds the headlights will kick in...)
Even though you can turn the headlights on manually with the stalk, you cannot turn them off manually when the sensor detects darkness (and the key is on, obviously...).
Anyway, if I could have the same system in my Protege I would be a happy camper. Some times I start the car at night and after a few seconds of staring at a dark gauge cluster I remember, "Oh yeah, I have to turn them on myself. Doh!".

I always drive with my lights on. I just decided to do it when I started driving, and now it's a habit. My only problem is that makes the clock really hard to read because of the dimmer!! An auto-off with the keys might be useful, i think they sell some kits that'll turn off your lights after a few minutes with the keys out.

I'm just happy my P5 has a alert tone to tell me about my lights and keys. Shameful to admit but I locked myself out and let the battery go dead a lot in my old escort and tercel. I always drive with the lights on during rain or fog and stuff. Of course being a dummy I also used to forget to turn them off.
Luckly Mazda is making sure they build cars to the lowest common denominator.... namely Me!!
Hear hear on daylight driving lighst and light use after dark... course here in the country you have no choice there are no street lights
