I sold the P5. Now what to buy?

Yup, It'll be gone this weekend. The coupler is driving down from up north somewhere. I had to pretty much put it all back to stock to sell it. I will be selling off a bunch of stuff if anyone is interested in some parts.

Here's my new car choices...nothing is final, just testing the waters.

Mazdaspeed6 -- Everyone knows this car. It's fast, new and cheap. Only downside is I hate my local mazda dealer. They STILL try to screw me even after I've worked there and bought 5 cars from them. I don't WANT to give them my money.

Porsche Boxster -- theres a real nice pair of used, low mileage boxsters in my area. They aren't rockets but they are Porsches and in the $16-20K range with 40-60k miles.

LS1 swapped FD3S RX7 -- a buddy of mine is selling his 93 RX7 rolling chasis. Hinson Supercars here in town does LS1 conversions which only add about 45lbs of weight to the car but give it about 350-350 at the wheels. A little stronger than a stock 225/217 FD engine. this setup is the most powerful but also the most expensive at $22k

What do you guys think would be a good purchase in the $20K range? $20k new won't get a lot of car but in a used car you can get a ton.

Natey, wanna sell an rx7?

I say either MS6 or LS1 FD. Just not the Boxster, I just dont like them personally, not very nice looking, kinda cheapy compared to normal Porsche quality...

a boxster is the poor mans porche but it's still a porsche. Fit and finish is awesome on the car and the gauges make me go nuts. One of the best dashes I've ever seen, next to the RX8.

I'm really leaning towards the boxster myself. This one is white with classic sport wheels and fully loaded. All it needs is a $7K twin turbo kit from germany and i'll be all set.

If you really don't need the room get the Boxster. I agree with you completely that even a "poor man's" Porsche is still a Porsche.

A friend of mine has a 928, which is considered a kind of step-brother because of the V8 but damned if that engine doesn't sound beautiful.

If you need the room go with the MS6.

350's used are more than i want to spend for a nissan...I like the 350 but not more than I'd like th ms6 or ms3 or 986/987

gary, i had an 84 928S4 and it was awesome...even with a sloppy loose engine it hauled ***...until the motor siezed and I sold it for parts. I'd buy another 928s4 in a heartbeat if I found one clean enough.

I have a friend who's a Mazda mechanic at my local dealer. He told me that the MS6s are not doing too well in the dependability dept.

lol, I'm lovin my FD and ain't selling it anytime soon, but I'm SURE you could find a f-in' sick one for 20k or so. Check out the RX-7 club's FS section if you're serious about an FD...I won't even mention dependability, though. An LS1 takes care of all that, though. Plus, 350lbs of torque doesn't lie!

Boxters are pretty sick, IMO, but for 20k, I'd want a glass back window, at least. My 1st car was a Porsche 914...VW by parts, but Porsche by part-prices. IMO, there's NOTHING like a mid-engined Porsche to put a smile on your face, that's for sure.

yeah, the FD thing is only feasible if I can get the turnkey LS1 swap for $18k or so...

I'm scared to buy an FD used...you never know whos pounded on it before.

Natey....how about the FC? I'm being serious.

Just like a car salesman. Matt said 20K and you assume he means 22k, lol.

If insurance and space aren't an issue, you can get a C5 Corvette easily for a little bit under 20k. For bang for the buck, that's a pretty good case, in my opinion.

I've got a fewe more options now on my plate. Just because I CAN spend a certain doesn't mean I want ot.

I found a MINT 1986 944 turbo for $8k here I'm thinking about. I've also got a lock on a 93 RX7 with the mazdaspeed body kit, single turbo, blah blah blah for $15k.

I like having options...Instead of buying one $20k car I may buy 3 used porsches for $5k each or something....although that would really **** my wife off.
