yeah, i know it sounded like i wanted u to rat out, but far from it. i'm just saying there comes a point in ur life/career where ur source of income should not be jeopordized by co-workers. take my friend for example. she lost her job bc she didn't sqeal on her friend. now she's making less than half of what she was making b4, and is her friend making up the rest of the money for her? no. i'm just saying that sometimes u gotta look out for #1...
as a supervisor myself, i love seeing people look out for each other...
i too am a supervisor, and tho i enjoy workplace chemistry, i can't stand it when ppl lie to me to cover their friend's back, thinking i'm so f#cking stupid that i wouldn't know what was really going on... that's the kind of stuff that pisses me off.

as for security reasons, my friend screwed up. she should have told the truth and not act like her supervisors were idiots who had no clue as to what was going on... dammit, they are police in the silicon valley area! she should have known...

i agree with sir nuke. ur co-worker took full responsibility, more or less letting u off the hook, and that says a lot. about both of u really.

it all worked out okay, didn't it?

yo... i just read your post. yeah... when it is safety related then yeah... you gotta let someone know... but if i was in that position, i'd let the co-worker know that i'm gonna rat them out, give them a chance to do it themselves, then tell. staying quiet when it is a bad dangerous situation is bad as doing it. but this was just a mistake is all. and yes, it did seem to work out and i'm pleased yall looked out for each other. if something bad happens be sure to DEAL with it together, not sweep it under the rug. i'm sorry about your friend, but i probably would have made the same mistake. but yeah, i expect my supervisees to tell me what's up so we can DEAL with the SITUATION before we start to point fingers.

bruce's and my friend's situation is/was so similar... weird.
it seemed harmless enuff, but i guess when ur job is secruity or police or whatever, there really shouldn't be any question as to unauthorized access.
however, i know co-worker loyalty is important, and i'm not sure i wouldn't act the same as my friend or bruce, but depending on the job situation and consequence, i know i'd choose my future (and that of my familys' if i had one).

yeah, my friend loved her job, pretty "elite" u could say since most crimes commited are digital and/or corporate. not ur basic murder-death-kill scenario like in la or new york...
she's pretty pissed she had to come back to hawaii... (wtf???)
as "harmless" as the situation seemed to be, she says she wishes she'd made the better/correct decision.

but in a selfish way, i'm glad she's back home closer to us (her friends)
