I'll probably make some of you mad...

Well hey...I have a NX Kit on my 2.0 and Guess What...I am Going Faster than the Mazda Speed...For you Guys who think your Pro's are slow..Check out A group buy i am trying to get together for people.....
I know what some of you are thinking...turbo is all the time...you need to fill up the bottle all the time...But hey...You can get 50 hp...with a kit like mine and you can even raise the hp upto 75...like Patio who has been running a 75shot for a while now...and truthfully...with the cost of running a turbo kit, tuning...guages...etc...it's just more efficent..to me atleast to run a nitrous kit...and not to mention...unlike a turbo'd car...i can take off my nitrous kit and put it into a new car...so it doesn't feel like i invested $4,000 for a turbo and now that i want to sell the car...i won't even get half of it...
that's my 2 cents!
Chas

Relying on the bottle isn't true power from the engine. I would like to know that my power is always there.
I don't think it's cheating...The only thing i think is cheating...is when the person says..what you go under the hood and you say..nothing...and you really have a nitorus kit...than you are cheating...
And It's true power...just like a turbo...but as with a turbo...you need to know how to tune it right...
You can easily blow an engine w/ a turbo...especially if it doesn't have right mixture of a/f...or not enough fuel pressure...or if it has advanced timing!!
Nitrous has been around almost as long as turbo's...and i am sure it's gonna be around for a much longer time than you think!!
And to you guys...who say invest in a 2nd gen pro..b/c it's lighter...bring it my way...and i'll show you why it don't matter when I burn you off the line...
j/king...

1st gen buddy not 2nd.
BTW, you can get a lot more power out of a 1st gen than a 3rd gen...

1st gen buddy not 2nd.
That's why i got i Mazda instead of a Honduh!!...LOL
says who? just because more people HAVE gotten more power out of a 1st gen doesn't mean it will always make more power.
given enough money, both motors will be able to achieve levels of power that are silly, and useless..

IMO, turbos. superchargers, and nitrous are all cheating to a degree.
in terms of a race, who cares if you win?

Winning is Winning...

Re: I'll probably make some of you mad...
Ok , you know what , I am gonna be straight up ,..!! I know that I will most likely get flamed for this but F it ...!!
I think that a lot of Protege owners are frigin Lazy , why cause people always want stuff handed to them , I mean on a damn silver platter and all .... If you look at the Honda's , they come out with a fast model every know and then , the base X,LX,and EX tend to be the slower cars and the SI is the faster or fastest,... ok same thing for protege's ... we have the DX,LX,ES and MP3 and then Mazdaspeed,... so we have two models that can be had with more power than a factory car..
With some effort you can make your Protege much faster than it is .... Ok with the 1.5,1.6,1.8,and 2.0 you figure you have 4 ways of making the car faster , 1. NA built motor 2.Turbo motor 3. NOS 4.Motor swap. 1 I mean the NA way can be a easy way to get you into the low 15's or maybe even 14's ,,IT CAN BE DONE($). 2 The Turbo way of doing things can also be done and will not cost you that much if you hook up with the right people and try and get somethings done at cheaper prices and there are also things that can be done on your own , it just takes effort. (SIMPLE) 3. If you want to go with NOS , the same goes as for turbo , I am pretty sure people know people with turbo and can get the hook up on the install , I mean ofcourse you have to do the same type of monitoring of your engine as with Turbo or High Strung NA engines , but it can be done (once again effort) .. and finally number 4.. ENGINE SWAP (so simple with mazda's) ... You want more power ok , then swap out the motor ,, the 3rd gen, 2nd gen and 1st gen ,, motors all have at least 2 variants that can be swaped in .. And 3rd gen guys are the luckiest ,, I mean they have 3 motors , the 1.6 ,1.8, and 2.0 wait four the FSZE. OK you don't want to spend money on parts, then buy a motor, everything is the same ,, mounts and so forth and anything that you may need can be had from the dealer or from salvage yards and sites like www.car-part.com and mazdarecycling.com...
I mean look at me , I am swaping my 1.5L out for a 1.8 I used to bitc@ and wine about not having enough power but I was like hell with that I will swap the motor... and I should not even have to do a how to on it cause the protege came with a 1.8L motor in it .. but I will so others can also strive to get it done. It is really simple to get power .. you have to rember that honda guys do the same thing we are doing , get rid of the sohc motor and get dohc motors .. so there is nothing hard about getting horsepower, ..
Mazda gave you a great handeling car ,, you can't have the world ,, horsepower we will have to install ourselves. and with the foundation that mazdas have , it is a snap to do ...
so decide which one you want to do and get on the ball ......

I love mazda to death, and that is why I chose the Protege as a daily driver over an FD rx7 which probably would have given me too many headaches for a DD. The protege came highly rated from C&D and RT...and I agree with them, it is a very well rounded car, and I have no complaints about that...HOWEVER, I do have a problem with the car's straightline performance. I know they aren't race cars, and that's fine, but with a little "zoom/zoom in every car" I'd expect more. I have had run ins w/ new cavaliers and nonvtec civics which the protege handles..but barely. The redline at under 6K is an embarrasment, and the overall HP levels are low in my opinion. The factory rated 130hp dropping to under 100whp is just flat out sad, a FWD should not loose 30hp in the driveline! With this being said, I feel the proteges make a far better show car then race car, and putting money into "performance" in these cars is a wasted effort. Also, I am talking about the NA pro's ...i test drove a MSP and was very impressed and feel they will have a strong healthy upbringing in the import racing world!
BTW...yes, the proteges do handle very well for a sedan I for one have just done a simple intake for MPG reasons, and will probably run headers and axle back for the same reasons...but no cams, pistons,etc...i know one guy here has all that and is only pushing 120whp?? WTF...thats worse then hondas i've seen, and I hate hondas!!
Hope i didn't offend anybody too badly, but i wanted to voice my opinion.

And the same gauges that turbo uses , NOS uses ,, cause you have to monitor all the same things ...

Why?
because with turbo , the engine is recyling exhaust gases and pushing these gasses to the intercooler to be cooled and then back into the throttle body with force to make more horsepower.. that is a natural way to making power next to a NA motor...
I look at NOS as cheating
Why?
because you have to use an external force usually not located anywhere near the motor (in the trunk or back seat) to inject cold gassed into the combustion chamber in a effort to make power, while most time it works , it does have a tendency to do more harm than good....
conclusion!
I rather have a high powered NA car , but I know that the motor would be high strung and those motors at times may not last to long , I would rather the turbo due to the ability to make power and be able to keep reliablity..
You take your pick and figure as long as you don't get boost hungry you can have a turbo car that would last you a long time ,.. look at mx-6's that are still for sale now a days and still running ....

that is crap cause a turbo can be put on any car also , the only part that would change is
the turbo manifold and if you are buying the same car that won't even change , and a turbo
(custom) won't run you 4grand , you can get one set up for way less than that.
And the same gauges that turbo uses , NOS uses ,, cause you have to monitor all the same
things ...

Dude...You are entitled to your opinoin...all that i am saying is that for the price to get a turbo...upto the HP (75shot) of a Nitrous kit is about $4000
Now you are correct in stating that you can transfer a turbo on to another car...BUT only if the car can use that same turbo setup...more than likely..most people will not buy the same car over and over!
ALSO!
the cost to take a turbo out and install on a new car is allot more than it cost to transfer a Nitrous kit!
Not to mention...You have to dyno a tubo to get max HP out of....with a nitrous setup you don't have to ....you get pills that change the jetting of the nitrous & fuel!
YOu are correct about using the same guages to monitor both (except for boost guage)!
Now about Bottle being cheating...He i can put a bottle into my engine compartment....will that still make me cheating???
Also...Cheating only comes along when somes walks up to you and says..what you go in your car...and you say it's stock...when truthfully you have a nitrous kit!
About reliability w/ nitrous...Goes like this...IF you Run HIGH shot of Nitrous w/ out a way to retard timing...you are going to ruin your engine...same way w/ a turbo!
I think a nitrous kit can be reliable if used properly...
AKA
Not running more than half your engines stock HP
REtarding the timing for every 50shot you bump up!
Not running Nitrous every day..or even every other day!
And Lastly checking out your plugs..and making sure that they are not white(which means your running lean)
or getting a wide band 02 sensor!
That's all i got to say...Please lets keep the peace!
Chas
P.S. hey bruce...Lets compare figures one of these days...and we'll see who get more HP per dollar!

I agree with everything you said, but I can't figure how that big bottle would fit in the engine bay .. lol .. that I would have to see , unless you used one of those slim long ones
