And if you must alter my statements, then by all means: 1) admit it (rather than slyly editing my post without claiming responsibility), 2) state clearly the reason why, and then, 3) please illustrate why YOUR religious views and sensitivity to certain terms is more important than free speech and expression!
BTW, the term "fucktard" truly offends me. I do not condone the idea of belittling mentally challenged people (the term "... tard" has that connotation).

How was I hypocritical? No, I think the "fucktard" term is totally insensitive to mentally challenged people; they can't defend themselves! BUT, I have never chastised anyone about it, ever!Nor would I censor this. Folks using such terms only insult themselves, IMO. Apparently, your collective panties were in such a wad over my post, you didn't even think about it before you responded. (Yet another good reason for you to lighten-up on editing/locking posts - you guys are more emotional
than logical)
But, the ironic aspect of this situation is that you (As Mods) liberally dispense such thoughts yet choose to censor particular words which only offend those of a Christian persuasion. Wake up!! By selectively picking words and phrases to ban, you are in effect, endorsing particular beliefs and conditions... Thus, you wish to preserve and protect the sensitivity towards Christians, but not any other group...? Hmmm... I believe this fits the criteria of hypocritical.

I agree with this completely. Changing the title and locking the other thread was a complete joke IMO.
The only thing that sort of pissed me off is that you bitch about the moderators "endorsing particular beliefs and conditions" and yet you choose to end your post with "Thank Allah" for making the Internet (and the world) a "fairly diverse place." With this you are trying to **** people off, I am sure, but why ??? You want others to take things lightly and yet you are taking your time to **** most of them off............you made your point without bringing Allah into the picture......

You didn't care, but the thread's title was still changed right? This thread was also locked temporarily, which was kind of stupid. It's ironic because "god damn" is changed and words such as "****" and "****" are left untoched. That's what personally pissed me off about this whole thing. The guy that complained had like 13 posts and he'll most likely never come back so it's not like it really mattered. Who changed the title anyways ???

I agree with Bruce on the respect issue. Using JFC might not be proper, but what's wrong with 'god damn' ??? How is it different from all the other swear words that are used in every other thread?

Personally, I find it principally offensive when individuals of particular religious persuasion find it acceptable to impose their morality on collective society, which is a characteristic found all too commonly in these ever conservative and close minded times. Anyone remember the Taliban and how ape **** everyone went over their use of religious fervor to control what people would say and do in Afghanistan? Censorship and control by Christian enthusiasts, let’s call them, in terms of their offense to the word God isn’t fundamentally any different. Such actions will fool some people, but those of you who would take such actions aren’t fooling all of us. I, Fossil Boy, and many others are calling you on it, because it is the real American thing to do: Freedom of Speech, the auspices of protest, even guerilla warfare-- So many of the things you wish to denigrate or sanction-- These are the true foundations of the United States, and there will be an ongoing fight to protect real freedom by the ever shrinking few of us who covet an appreciation of history and the very groundwork of American liberty; separate from religious interest; rooted in rebellion; and most certainly opposed to imperial dogma.

The activities apparent in this forum are actually the least of my concerns-- It is, however, the example shown here more direly amplified in society that I shudder from. Never have I so been struck with fear at the ridicule, persecution, and discrediting scorn faced by those who would voice their opinion against what the powers that be wish us to believe. This is about thinking for yourself and coming to grips with what’s really going on here.

Fossil Boy, you’re among the most well written and sentient people on this forum-- I would suggest to people that such might have something to do with your stance on various issues, including Freedom of Speech. I only wish all of you shared a similar concern, because it’s slipping away right before your oblivious eyes.

All of that said, I believe context is an important thing to bear in mind-- In the other thread, “God” was used in a way clearly not directed toward religious reference. Might one consider this instead of concluding it’s wholly inappropriate? Just a thought.

And no, I don't consider this fighting, not even arguing. To me this is a simple discussion, an exchange of ideas and views.

 

I think Protegé Menacé said it best when he said that this is a Privately Owned forum. As much as it is open to the public, it's still the moderator's job to "police" the threads.

Also, you have to keep in mind that telling someone to **** Off is simply swearing at them... but when you bring a religious name into it, it's something totally different. I'm not religious, but I am offended when people do this... It's obvious that swearing is allowed on this forum, but please people, keep it to that, if you must!!
