DanSmith - you are from Louisville and "Days of the New" is NOT your favorite band??????

J/K man - Travis Meeks is supposed to be from Louisville, KY, and DOTN is probably MY favorite band.

Linkin Park is pretty good - I get their energy, I suppose. Not my favorite, but I saw them live on MTV a few nights ago, and it was a solid performance.

BUT - I gotta say - if Linkin Park is the best show you've ever seen live, you need to get to some more shows!

My top few live shows have been:

Tool - OMG, amazing and undescribeable.

Pink Floyd - twice in '94 (Yankee & Giants Stadiums) - Insane!

Jimmy Page & Robert Plant - for a show that I had low expectations for, these old ***** BLEW ME AWAY. Incredible show.

Pearl Jam at MSG - the version of "Breath" from the Singles soundtrack that they played that night is STILL floating around on Kaaza.

Among others....

And....a 35 minute CD? WTF is up with that? At least when Alice In Chains did that (Jar of Flies), they had the courtesy to CALL it an EP. 35 minutes is not an album.

Heh, I liked (like) Days of the New a lot actually. My cousin works at a BMW dealership here in town and he has met Travis several times and has some autographed CD's. (both DotN and Tantric) Out of curiosity, do you know if either or both of the bands are still together? I have heard nothing about them in at least a year I would say, and a few weeks ago a radio station started playing "Shelf in the Room" regularly again and I wondered what happened to them.

I like that Evanescence CD. I have only listened to it once though, because I can't get enough of Meteora. I have gotten at least 5 of my friends to buy the CD so far. I don't think it has left any of our CD players since we got it. I'm gonna copy that Evanescence CD to my pc now since you guys reminded me of it.

As far as I know, Days of the New is still "together" - though of course it's a different band, other than Travis.

They put out an album last year (or maybe 2001?) - their third - the "red" album (the second being the "green" and the first being "orange" or "yellow" - depending on who you ask - Yellow had "Shelf in the Room" etc. on it).

The band - the last time I saw them - is Travis, Chuck Mingis on guitars, Ray Rizzo on drums, and Mike, uhhh - can't remember - on bass. I have seen them live a few times already - the last time being at the Mercury Lounge in NYC - we hung out with Travis and the band before the show - they were mingling in the bar. That was my second time meeting Travis and Ray - both are hella nice guys. It was a great time!

Tantric - bah. Sorry - not a fan. And anyone I know who saw them live said Hugo (lead singer) is a drunken *******, who can't sing to save his life. I just see no vision in their music - whereas I can "see" what Travis is getting at in DOTN songs.

From what I know, DOTN is working on the fourth record - the "purple" album. Unfortunately, they get very little promotion and support from the record company, so it can be tough going. Shame, really - "red" is literally filled with potential radio hits. But with no push, they get no play, ya' know? And Travis being the conssumate perfectionist in production doesn't exactly speed the album-making process along.......but Rome wasn't built in a day. The guy doesn't wat to put out a record he's not 110% proud of - I have much respect for that. Personally, I'll wait as long as I have to, and I'll buy anything DOTN releases.

Anyway - feel free to check out www.daysofthenew.com if you like. The site is *aight* - but there are cool links and some very cool people there, some of which I had the chance to meet at the last show in NYC.

Here's a pic of me (up front), my wife, and my buddy Jay with Travis at that show:
