LOCK DOWN!....why?

I've noticed that the admins here run a tight ship. But why so many locked threads? I know your trying to keep everything organized but it appears from the outside to be more a knee jerk reaction to peoples questions or statements that you don't like.
That is an honest opinion. Now, your motovations for locking threads may be very very different from that but, that's what it looks like.

Example...a guy asks why his new springs don't give the ride height the manufacturer says. There is some light discussion and then an admin gets on,posts something about doing a search and locks the thread. Now granted it may have been posted before but from the typical users veiw point why not talk about it some more. This is how people on the boards get to know each other. I guy posts a thread someone answers so on and so on. I mean we are all here cause we love our cars and want to talk to others who own and love the same cars we do. What's a little redundancy on very popular topics going to do? So..if it's already been posted don't answer and then he or she will have to search to find the answer.

Of course there is a time and place for locked threads but just let people talk about there cars and relax alittle...we all mazda fans.

Just a thought..

i personally couldnt tell you. i don't close threads... just merge them usually. but it's probably so there's not 8 billion lines about the same thing in 8 billion more threads. organization more than likely. we're not ****'s here... we just try to keep it clean.

please understand

Shaun, the example you cited....the individual first off posted the thread in the wrong forum to start with....then he posted the SAME thread in multiple forums.....he was ask to move it....and to delete one of them.....I would have moved it for him...however....he posted it in a forum that I am not a moderator in. NOW, as for going a head and answering the post? well some people will...and others won't....and I don't know why for sure that the thread was closed. However....if the individual had tried to do the search and had not found what he was looking for....searching can be tricky.....all he would have had to do was ask for help. simple as that.......We are very helpful....and enjoy our cars as much as anyone....but there is a right way and a wrong way to go about asking for help....especially when you are brand new..... thats all. :{D

oh...btw....welcome to the club!

I think it is a good idea to lock down the threads that have already contained the same question. Repetition is always boring, and since I am a webmaster, I too like keeping things very organized. It just saves so much time. And you can spend time waiting to hear from your question researching the forum. It is already there, why not take advantage of it?

You know whats sad? Hundreds of people will read this thread, and it won't matter because it won't stop. Newbs will always ask the same questions over and over again, you can tell them countless times to use the search feature and they "won't". I am not one to bash newbs, because I was one once, but I don't know if they are stupid or lazy? The search feature has to be the best feature added to Web Forums, and very few actually take advantage of it. I wish we could get a read out of all that has used it in the past few months, I bet it will be small numbers, compared to all the threads being locked because of multiple posts. It's one thing that will never change on web forums, and only real way to enforce it is set rules and remove the account if they do it. Its dick, and not a good idea if you like to keep people around (newbs joining board for help), but it gets the job done and stops all the complaints about it. This seems to be a popular problem that nobody has fixed, maybe the Board developers should look into a feature that scans threads before being posted for similar Questions/words/sentences,etc. I am a programmer and know its a bitch to go back into code and redo/add stuff, but this seems to be a pretty important feature that could benefit a lot of major boards.

thats one good thing about being here from the beginning. You have a good idea about whats been said. yeah i know that doesnt help the new people. but thats there problem.. ...j/k
I guess it doesnt really bother me to much. I would rather have people post. then not b/c they think they might **** someone off. IMO

That was a good idea tho travis. when do you think it will be done.
