Manual Shifting Questions
Hi, i'm 16 and a newbie at driving stick.. so don't flame me haha
my question is how can i start faster??
At stops, i usually release the clutch a little then add a little gas, to about 1500 RPMS or so, then release the clutch for the engine to catch on. Sometimes it stalls, if my rpms drops
But however, this all takes too long!! I can't start the car fast enough, and on inclines, the car will roll a little too much.
Can someone go in Detail about how i can start faster, better, with less rollback? Thanks
Also, i'm not interested in Drag racing start techniques

no.. practise more.. all you need is practise.. i was EXACALY like that but after you drive it for like a month you will get good at it and you can switch your feet faster. but there is another way to stop the car from moving back. you can release the clutch just nuff so it rubs (after like 2 seconds it will stall), this will keep the car from rolling back but its just nuff time to move your foot to the gas and peel out... er i mean get going

I'm 17, and I shift perfectly, it only takes a little time to learn how to level off the clutch and the accelerator, but once you do you never go back to bad driving lol.
and tru, until you get better at it, just forget about dragging, once you get good posture, and can shift smoothly, and etc. etc. then read up on dragging techniques lol
I remember when I used to roll a bit on hills,
I don't anymore, only maybe an inch the most
Basically the old age rule applies
Practice makes perfect
soon enuff you will be shifting without even thinking, I know I don't realize shifting and all anymore, just takes time
When I go dragging tho, then I pay more attention to shifting, so then i do realize it

If you're on a hill, use the parking brake...
While waiting at a light and going uphill, put your parking brake on. With car in 1st, release the parking brake as you apply throttle and release the clutch - no rolling back into the car behind you !

in my SE-R i can hold the clutch out just right (and have my foot off the gas completely), and it will keep me from rolling, no brake, no gas, all clutch....
But speaking of what your goal should be, on any hill you should be able to not stall out, and not roll back when you let off your brake (dont clutch stall like i described, im just saying i can do that, i dont recommend doing it).... then you can say you can drive a clutch well!
