Mazda still sells the old 323

No hiding FoMoCo...
Site made no effort to hide link to FoMoCo!
And that copy is good! "...More fun than breathing helium, the 323 puts the fun into funky ..."
Note the (optional) alloy wheels, but engines are choice of 1.3l or 1.6l.

I think that production of the old bug actually ended when the new one roled out. They finally shut the lines down and modernized them (a bit) to handle the new car.

I configured me a souped up old Beetle on VW Mexico site and it ended up costing ~$7500. Talk about a deal! Well, considering the car, not really...

Personally, if I was in Africa, I would take the 323 over the Pro5 anyday. Anything breaks down on the 323, and it would be a helluva lot easier to fix in the middle of nowhere, then dealing with the much more modern complexities of a Pro5. Hell, I would prefer if the wheels had bushings and grease nipples instead of bearings.

I'm sure you're aware that VW still sells the "old" Beetle in Mexico, and I think Brazil and ****. Actually I remember hearing something about that, I think that they're discontinuing production sometime soon....
