Mazda's "Americanization" of their cars
Hey guys, we over at Mazda6Club.com have heard about the "Americanization" of Mazda's cars for the future and are pretty upset over it. We decided to start a letter writing campaign. I'm sorry for cross posting this over many forums, but we want to let Mazda know how the customers truly feel. We have set up a template for you to use and edit as needed. We decided to go with snail mail as E-Mail can be looked over and deleted and a mass volume of snail mail seems the best way to get their attention. If you have not read the article, feel free to visit this web link to read it:

This is the template letter we at 6club have created and are spreading it in hope that others will help us with our petition (edit as needed):

Dear Mr. Davis:
I have read reports that Mazda is considering "Americanizing" its North American products. This concerns me, as I am an enthusiastic supporter of your current line of driver-oriented products. Altering the ride and drive characteristics to what are considered typical American tastes will destroy what we love about your cars.
I can understand that you are under pressure to increase North American sales. Once people experience the firm controlled ride and precise nimble handling that is the core Zoom Zoom of every Mazda, they become raving fans. Unfortunately, all too many car buyers never see all the wonderful things Mazda has to offer, as they have not seen advertising. More promotion would make people aware of the great cars you offer, get them in the driver's seat, and take one home.
I am asking that you keep the Zoom Zoom alive by continuing to produce and improve a line of driver-oriented automobiles.
Thank you,
Your Name

If you do decide to do what many of us at 6club are doing and send this letter off, I truly thank you. We can only hope that Mazda hears what we have to say and listen. Thanks!

It quite possibly could. You never know unless you try. If they do ignore us, they will notice it in sales I'm sure. Anyway, it's worth a shot. Thanks for takin the time to read it.

ive been driving for almost a year... my first car. bought for a grand off brother and law... a dented, maroon, 99' protege dx...
(i still have it) it took me a few months to get the money for the tax and title... 2 days after transfer, my motor just clanks and then the motor is declared shot.... its been 7 months since then.. i have been working and saving money to fix the dents, get a new motor and oil pump... the car means alot to me and i would like to stay a consumer and customer of Mazda.. it would just kill me to see the car upgraded but tuned down.. saying bye bye to Zoom Zoom and hello to be an old sunday driver.

Hasn't Mazda been screwing the US for a while? I mean, c'mon, 92 hp is pretty weak for a 1998 1.5L engine. Also, at least with the second gen proteges, we don't get half the suspension components that Japan has (strut bars, antisway bars, whatever).
And since when did making cars slower and a "nicer ride" constitute "American tastes"? What, are they living in the 1970s all of a sudden? The magazines are going to have a fit with this.
I like my Mazda a bunch as it's quite a buy for cheap (minus the underwhelming engine). Even if the second gen was tuned for a nicer ride, it still handles quite well and is very composed.
Like RenoM6, I think a good chunk of the problem is advertising. "Zoom zoom" is a fine tag line, but they don't advertise the cars enough/correctly. Think: who's seen one of those atmospheric one-with-the-car commercials for the RX-8 (and those are freaking nice cars)? I haven't. Maybe they're on different channels, but I don't think so. Mazda could take some ideas from Nissan commercial-wise.
Anyways, thanks for the info guys.

Isn't it kind of odd that a club based on a car built in AMERICA (mazda6club) is complaining about the Americanization of Mazda? Hmm.
Anyway, I see no problem with Mazda designing cars for a specific market with that market in mind. It just makes good business sense.

Uggh, seeing how everyone thinks the 6 is an American car disgusts me. DO YOUR RESEARCH! Yes it is built in America, but the 6 is based off of the Atenza which is a WORLD car (like 90% + Mazda)....hear me, it was released in Japan and Europe first...The only difference the 6 has from the Atenza is left hand drive, a V6 motor, no diesel. The car is a sedan, yes...but it can out handle any other car in its class without problems (Accord, Maxima, Camry, ANY American car in our class, even Mustangs..not in our class but we still kick its butt...). I find it amazing that you think your Protege, which you bought in America, is any less American than the 6 just because it was BUILT in Japan, whatever.
Anyway, thanks to anyone that has sent in letters of concern.

Oh and i bought my car in Canada, not America. And yes, it is more Japanese than your 6. How many parts on your 6 come from the Ford parts bin compared to the Protege5? Anyway, this is a pointless debate.. The 6 really is an awesome car regardless of where it is manufactured.
