Its tough to do a national meet, because of the driving time. But if it were to happen would be so monster!! Now where is there a place that can hold 2000 cars?

Another option is to have regional meets EVERYWHERE, and on the SAME DAY...

Wil, you put so much work into organizing that I don't think that you enjoy the meets as much as you should.

Instead of organizing the picnic areas n everything, you guys should just meet at a park that's free to use, and everybody brings a bit of food, and someone brings a bbq and you have a meet. That way you don't have to go around asking people that you don't know to pay for the facility, etc.

National Meet sounds grand, but wouldn't work. Tons of regional meets on the same day sounds more like it. I was actually considering traveling down to Portland a long time ago but never went cause it was just a bit too far.

ah, but there lies the dilemma. If you don't reserve a spot at a park, you are never certain if that spot will be open on the day of the meet. And if there's uncertainty, A LOT more people will bail out at last second, and the 30+ car turnout at MAPP IV would have NEVER happened. Plus, without a reservation, the park ranger will give us even more hell than what they gave us Saturday (truth be told, the rangers on Saturday were not too bad, they did give us space to do our thing, and monitored from a distance)

it's like the inverse of that Field of Dreams quote, "if you DON'T build it, they will NOT come"

although the BYOL (bring your own lunch) is a good idea for whoever's organizing a big meet to think about

I was thinking about this myself. This past weekend was the VOI (Viper Owner Invitational) meet that was held in Tennessee. They had a show, drag races and course events for all the vipers. I know viper's have a bigger pocket but they had cars shipped to the event. It was also sponsored by Dodge. Dogdge picked up a large part of the bill and even provided swag in the form of grab bags and lunches.

I think someone with the charisma should approach Mazda or Mazdaspeed to see if we got enough members for a national Protege club and see if they would pony up sponsorship and $$ so we could gather somewhere.

Since Mazda's name is on Laguna Seca I think it would be a given the first meet should be there. The whole VOI is handled by VCA. I think it can be done, but I think we should wait till after the release of the MSP possible the 6 to approach Mazda.

If we have enough members with one big voice, I would think they would have to listen.

how about an online realtime video of each meet? probably more work that it's worth and not all that great with 20ppl standing around a laptop....just a crazy thought.

I like the idea of a national meet at LSeca.

Have Three meets at the same time and use a laptop with satelite modem at each location and attach it to a 51 inch big screen tv. Then we can see everyone. LOL.

I then woke up and relized no $$$ for any of that stuff.

Seriously guys, if I ever win the Jackpot (~5.0 million), I'll organize an autocross event for protegeclub.com people

It will be free runs, sushi and drinks for everyone hehe, but drunks after the runs...
