Right now I'm tossed between two choices. Either a new WRX or wait for the new Wrangler to come out.





I know this isn't exactly what it will look like but if it's even close I would like it.




What do you think I should go for? I'm not going to get the STI it will be the model just before it, so it's still turbo charged . In about 4 years we will be starting a family so we want a vehicle that will be practical. I know the WRX is more practical but I love my Jeep. And have always said that if I ever get rid of it I will replace it with a new one. If they are still offering the extended version(the Unlimited) then that's what I would go for in the Jeep.

you need to choose a vehicle based on what you'd use it for. My wife really wanted a rwd manual sports car. So i bought her an RX8. Great car just not what she needed. We ended up selling it for a beetle TDi. She's going to put a lot of miles on the car over the next two years and with gas prices the way they are we needed something that would get good mileage, last a long time and have enough interior room for 2.5. If you want a jeep you probably need a mini-van. Just be REAL careful in what you choose because you don't wanna be like me and trade cars out every 3 months.

 

I only want one kid to start. So I'm not pressed for space on a daily basis. Plus my work is only 7 miles one way. We will be keeping the the P5, but I want something to get us through winter months. I have gotten accustomed to having the Jeep for the winter. MD ususally doesn't get more than 6-8 inches snow per winter storm. So that's why I want either the Jeep(4x4) or or the WRX(AWD). If I lived in Massachusetts I'd definitly be going for the Jeep.

used wrx then....you can find real clean nice low-milage wrx's in the $12-14K range.

 

yeah, gently used cars are the way to go, less money by far and generally you wont find any major issues

I've always wanted a Jeep...that being said, I'd go for the WRX.

 

Well talking from experiance with kids. You can not chose a car if you gona have a kid until you put a kids car seat in one and drive around for a while. Remimber that a baby seat has to have a lot of room and the passanger can't be cramped. I understand your gona keep the P5 but what ifs happen. What if it's in the shop or something and you 3 have to go some where? Will you have room? Will it be safe in a wreck? I didn't think about this when my son was born and keeped my MR2. I had an Explorer for the family car. Well it broke down and needless to say THAT DIDN'T WORK OUT TO WELL!.

I have 2 boys (4/5) - 5th adult would be cramped between the 2 seats (of course, no one EVER rides w/ us anyway)... but.. if my 03 mazda protege breaks, then we can always use my wifes 01 protege... and if that breaks... we can use her 92 protege... and if that breaks... we can borrow my mother-in-laws 97 honda odyssey (That i sold her)... never hurts to have a backup of the backups...

 

OK that's over kill on the what ifs. LOL

I checked out the safety rating on the WRX and it got very good ratings. The STi was rated better but not by much. Just looking at the history of the Jeep I don't expect too much improvement on safety. It will be better than what's out now because of the new safety regulations, but it will be no match for the WRX. As for safety seats, they all pretty much will fit in any vehicle. Remember the WRX is a 4 door sedan not a two seater. So I don't think there will be a problem with a car seat. We hardly ever have passengers and I don't think that will change much until the kid gets older(5-8 yrs old) when they start getting friends.
