Hi, my names Hector and while I do not own a Mazda I am a huge fan of the Mazda MP3 and the upcoming Mazdaspeed Protege. I was visiting this board in hopes of learning more about these two truly exciting cars. I believe the Protege is a potent weapon in autocross so I hope to learn more. In terms of what I own, I own a 96 Dodge Neon with slight mods. I plan on autocrossing my car in a few weeks. I have an off topic question, about two weeks ago I went to a drag racing event and saw a Protege in the high 13-low 14 times? But wasn't sure if it was just a base model or MP3. Any ideas what kind of mods this car had? Because it was awesome.

Let me be the first to welcome you to our happy little net community
If the protege was doing low 14 second runs, and assuming that the 1/4mile wasn't slanted downwards, then it must've had a turbo'd engine since the stock Proteges usually do high 16 second or 17 second runs depending on the driver.
We're more about handling then straight out speed hehe
Hope to see you around

Thanks for the welcome. As far as my Neon, I plan on keeping it for a while more. I am currently a college student so spending money isn't really an option. And since most of you agree that the Pro is more about handling than speed, I would have to say the same about my car. While my car is beyond slow I do enjoy the handling quite a bit and have scared a few people who have sat in the passenger seat. The Pro is also a handling machine so if I am fortunate enough I would like to buy a used Mazdaspeed Protege after college. Remember, I'm not here to troll or disrespect the Pro. I am here to learn because I want to learn as much as I can about some of my favorite cars. I am also a member of Neons.org and the Suburu forums.
