OEM: Original Equipment Manufacturer.

What else could it possibly mean? In refrence to the windshield I would take OEM to mean the same brand/type of windshield that came installed on the car stock.

Maybe I am confused?

Jay
no jay...you are not confused....however...the point I was ATTEMPTING to make is that PPG is an OEM.....but the windshields that are coming ON the mazda's are not theirs..... but PPG is not specifically an AFTERMARKET windshield maker....

OEM means that it is built to the specifications that the manufacturer uses.

For example, in the computer world, you can buy an OEM soundblaster card. It doesn't mean that Creative made the card. Rather, a company has bought the rights to use the technology and can build the card for (often times) cheaper than coming directly from Creative. This is usually accomplished by using cheaper parts or not using implementing certain features that the card made by the manufacturer would use.

So in terms of glass, I would take OEM to mean that the windshields are built to the same specifications as Mazda uses, but does not necessarily have to be the exact same make that Mazda uses.

This is EXACTLY how I use the term....and always have....its just that some people don't.....you just need to communicate CLEARLY and PERCISELY is all.

:{D life is good.
