Police

What are the cops like in your area pertaining to being profiled??
Here in VA, they stop you and want to search if you have an import with rims. It seems like they believe that if you drive an import with rims, you are a drug dealer. They stop imports all the time for "non factory" exhaust systems, tinted windows, being lowered (front bumper has to be 14" off the ground), aftermarket taillights, etc. They have nothing better to do than harass import drivers. VA motor vehicle laws are extremly lame. "Any part not installed by the factory is a violation of VA code". So on the extreme side of it, if your factory radio quit working and you had circut city install a replacment, that's against the law. The cops don't get that stupid about having an aftermarket radio, but it is written in the laws so they could. The biggest things the cops here gripe about is tint (which I understand is a safety issue for the cop), lowered imports (they don't bother lowered trucks, or american cars), and aftermarket exhaust (the vehicle code set decible limits, and the cops enforce it, however, none of the cops carry a decible meter). It sucks being harassed beacuse you have an import. Mustang's and Camaro's with 3" exhaust's are fine, they don't get bothered about it. And the height laws are very misunderstood by the police. The way thier law reads is "vehicle must be 14" off the ground, measured from the bottom of the front bumper to the ground". What is on the front of the car is a bumper cover, the "bumper" is the metal brace behind the cover.
I don't get why we get harrassed around here all the time and I was just wondering if anyone else has to deal with this kind of b.s.

God, that really blows!
Cops in my area just like to harass the ricers, 'cuz they can!
My daughter's bf drives a really loud, lowered Integra. He gets pulled over all the time, mostly for being obnoxiously loud, but not really driving illegally.

wow that sucks.. its because in virginia cops have nothing else better to do.. they probably go after the imports cause its against there redneck "NASCAR" standards. btu its ok to drive a busted up pick up with no bumber on it and having rusted out holes in there fenders

<~~~about to be a police officer!

I can honestly say that cops do NOT target a specific type or style of car. My best freind is a police officer and has written over 1200 tickets. He said less than 4% of those were considered "tuner" cars.

If you aren't drawing attention to yourself and not doing anything wrong then you have nothing to worry about. I have been pulled over several times. I've deserved it everytime. I've NEVER been pulled over when I wasn't doing somethign wrong.

I've been (IMO) what you could call profiled...I was pulled several times after "2 fast 2 furious" came out...I was pulled over for my hood lights 2x and the cop said they "looked" blue...when in fact they were white, which is perfectly legal....Then I was pulled over and my car was inspected, when the cop could find nothing wrong he let me go, he said "It's just a routine stop."..I was like "wtf !?!?"...didnt say too much though, I already know better than to smart off to cops, they can FIND something to write you a ticket for

In Port Charlotte, when turner cars get pulled over they look for NOS and street racing stuff. They dont seem all that interested in the drug dealing. They know who most of them are. They are big into trying to stop the import thing.

In my town North Port. They used to hassle you if you had a honda with stickers and stuff. I havent gotten a second look since I had my car painted. I also had a cop move in next door to me so they really dont bother me now.

i've been pulled over a number of times and i wasn't doing anythign illegal

once, i had me, and 3 friends in the car, we pull out onto the main road, and bam the cop puts on his lights, and pulls us over....
his reason.... my friend in the passenger seat bent his head down a little bit, so he thought he was trying to hide drugs....liek comeon.... really what happened, my friend sneezed..... he told all of us to get out of the car... we waited for about 30 mins for him to check everything, then on top of that it was probbaly like 45 mins of talking..... and the funny thing is whenever another police car drove by they would stop, and ask the cop if everything is okay and if he needed any help....
then he let us go

thats what happens when you have 4 brown people in a car

another time, we pulle dout from a plaza which had "The Beer Store" in it.... and they pulled us over in liek 10 seconds... that took 45 mins too, and we were late for class, and got in all that **** from school for being late for class..... we were just in the plaza walkign around.... (theres a bowling alley there, we went to check it out, to see the prices and if we should go after school)... they checked the car for alcohol... at the time i was 17, and only one of our friends were 19 (legal age for alcohol here is 19).... so that happened...they found no booze, and let us go....

and theres about 4 or 5 more times i can recall, but too much typing, i need to finish my isu for english ...

In the past, if I was doing something stupid, and got pulled over for it, fine, I deserve the ticket. But lately they have been stopping people just to stop people. The last time I was stopped was back in Feb. The cop said he stopped me because my car "fit the profile of some local drug dealers they had under survalience". WTF If you have them under survailence, you should know thier names, and know I am not them. It was snowing, and I had my daughter with me (who was 6 mos old at the time), and the cop asked to search my car. I said ok, and he asked me to stand on the side of the highway, holding my daughter in the snow. Hell NO! You want to search the car fine, but my daughter and I are staying in the car. After I asked for his name and badge # so I could file a formal complaint, he "let me go".
Some cops let thier jobs go right to thier heads.
I am glad to hear that there are still some good cops out there that do a good job, are fair, and make it home everyday. With all the b.s. around people are starting to wonder what the cops are being paid for, Protect and Serve, or Profile and Search!

most police stations have a policy, when they make a traffic stop, they are required to have backup present, just incase anything happins, these days it is far more likely for an officer to be assaulted, and they want to try and deter that by having 2 or maybe 3 officers present.

as far as profiling, yeah it happins, think about it, who is more likely to be pulled over an old couple in a taurus or a young kid in a tuner car???

in Puerto Rico

In the beautiful crazy island of Puerto Rico they are the same. Usually the cops are in search of any lowered import, wings, exhaust system.

I have been thru a lot of crap; One time I got a ticket because the exhaust sounded to loud, but when I went to court the judge asked where was the DB test to show I was beyond the accepted levels the cop said he just heard the car was to loud. Then the judge said that unless there is a written proof from a authorized DB reader the ticket was unnecessary.

Once I had a pack of new engine oil in the trunk and because they could not find anything to give me a ticket they just poured the oil on the trunk and ripped the cables of all my speakers!!!

I used to have a Honda Prelude, I got pulled so many times I just sold it, had tickets for any stupid thing. Then I bought a Ford Escort GT and never had any problems until I made it turbo.
