Angry Pop-up ads are killing me...

Recently they started to pop-up about every 5 minutes. From legit companies like expedia.com and chase and others. I use att cable modem, have never had a problem until this. Does anyone know what can I do to resolve this?

Or even better.
Get Mozilla. It has a built-in pop-up killer. Internet Keywords, the best HTML rendering engine, sick skins, HTTP Pipelining, image(ad) blocking, a bunch of other useful stuff, and last but not least, TABS!

Check it out.

I have been having the same problem. I have had DSL for a couple of years now, never had a real problem with pop up ads. Now all of the sudden (past month) I can't get rid of them. As of yesterday, I am getting **** ads (not that I mind, but my girlfriend might question what I am doing on my machine) I think some new technology must have come out that embeds something into your machine. I have deleted all cookies and I still get pop ups, even on websites that I know don't use them ( I just got a pop up that tried to install something in my machine as I am writing this). Sometimes they just stay open and then crash my machine
I have tried the pop up stopper, that did not work, still got them. It also made it a pain in the **** to look at websites that had anything that opened in another window. It also had a conflict that would not allow me to print anything.
Anybody have any suggestions how to get rid of them? I am going to get a firewall.

Also download Ad-Aware and get rid of all the crap that you have installed. Spamware, spyware, crapware...

Yes that GAIN Gator thing seems to have got me. I managed to delete a lot of it but I am sure there is some more. Do you know the link for that software off hand?

Thanks guys, I'am actually trying that ad-ware program as we speak. I think that is what has happened. Hopefully this will cure it.

This thread helped me too. I also downloaded the Ad-aware and found 91 files wreaking havoc on my system! Run much faster now. Thanks

Now do you just delete everything it tells you is bad? what if it thinks a file is spyware but it is something you need?

See if you can find in the options, if there is an exclusion list or something like that. I am using different software, and if it blocked a wrong site, I just go to the bocked list, and choose them to be excluded. Hope it helps.

But how do you tell which needs to be excluded?

What ever URL you do not want to get blocked. Like I said, I use different sowtware, and the software shows me a list of blocked URLs. And if it is the one I do not need to be blocked, I choose it to be added to Excluded list.

"popup stopper" from "Panicware" is excellent. It will stop ALL popups, and if you need a popup window from a legitimate site, all you have to do is hold the CTRL key while clicking on the link. I found it much easier to use than popupkiller.
