I Totally Sympathize
I can sympathize with you, onehawaiian. Just a few days ago I learned a longtime friend, a fellow I grew up with and was best friends with through grade school and Junior High, died of brain cancer at only 32.
I hadn't done a good job of keeping in touch, not making any contact in about 10 years-- I thought we'd have time later to catch up and speak of old times; the kind you remember from your childhood as some of the best in your life. His parents and sister were always great, welcoming, kind and accomplished people and I can't imagine anything like that happening to anyone less deserving-- Especially for a young man who should only be through maybe a third of his life. I really screwed up by not staying in touch.
Anyway, any of you guys out there who have thought about old friends, don't put off getting in touch with them. Really. I never took the time to tell this friend what those good times meant to me while growing up and now there'll never be another chance. Make sure you don't have to say the same thing, as life is fickle.
