Reason for the War
Terrorism????
No, there is nothing to prove this, and trust me, Bush has tried everything.
The reason why most of you think that is because of the Propaganda being put forth by the US government.
They always reference the 9/11 and then mention Iraq and Sadam soon after.....
September 11th, 2002 attack on the innocent civilians is being used as an opportunity by the Bush cabinet. It's a window of opportunity to be able to get some public support in its war against Middle Eastern countries by relating the terrorism groups to not only Afghanistan, but also Iraq and Iran to follow. Doesn't this offend anyone?
Weapons of Mass Destruction???
Just to trace back a little bit, the major leaps in Iraqi weapons were attained after the US exported the biological and chemical agents to Saddam. US did this because it knew that Iraq would use it against Iran civilians and armed forces.
We all now by now about the Scuds that were bought and modified from the Russians in the late 80s. These were ruled illegal. After the Gulf War, Iraqis were banned from producing certain types of weapons of mass destruction. They were monitored by the UN Weapons Inspectors who were later discovered to be the US spies working on more things then just weapons. Anyways, 12 years down the road, Iraq was found to have too many weapons and was ordered to destroy the missiles all of a sudden?
Why the sudden change in mood? Is it because the time was right for the US to go into Iraq? After 12 years of closely following the Iraq weapons and the UN weapons inspectors delivering the news that there is nothing illegal with the missiles that they have, what is there more that the US government wants?
"Oh, but the Iraqis fired Scuds just a few days ago"...
Nope, the US officials 'believed' that they were scuds. What did they do? Big headlines everywhere....... "Iraqis launch Scuds!!!"
What happens when people admit that they probably weren't Scuds? Nothing... everyone's quiet.
Last possible reason to go into Iraq is to get rid of Saddam
This is once again a violation of international rules. Who's next after this? Jean Chretien? Who else do the States not like that will have their country bombed?
It really makes me mad when people for the war call this argument 'supporting Saddam'. Saddam is NOT a good leader/human being/etc. However US cannot be the policing agency for the world, and also it cannot kill hundreds of civilians to get rid of Saddam.
The real reason why US is involved?

The real reason France and Russia aren't involved? Because they already had deals with Iraq for oil and also because Iraq owes Russia alot of money for the weapons from 'back in the day'.
Final Note: Please try and open up your mind (people that are for the war) and think critically. Watching the American TV stations the last few days, it's very sad to see what they're showing compared to CBC (Canadian)... The fact that it seems that all the news are hosted by retired US Generals should tell you something. If someone would like, I'd be more then glad to point out a page full of news that were reported wrong in the last few days, or the blatant propaganda.
Now, with the war already under way, I have nothing to hope for but that the US and British forces get to Baghdad quickly and without much resistance, and that Bush, Rumsfeld and Powell get what they deserve.

Well I for one happen to think differently then you do. And here is why
Terrorism? Yes 9/11 is brought up by a lot but this isn't a war for 9/11. It is a war against International terrorism of which 9/11 was an example of. Iraq finances suicide bomber campaigns in Israel and that has been proven among other terrorist activities. Not to mention the Al Qaeda camp was found in Iraq. That is terrorist related.
Now on the topic of weapons of mass destruction. Yes we did give them weapons in the 80's. In criminal law the person that sold the gun is not criminally liable for murder. In International politics of of the basic rules is "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Alliances exist until they are no longer politically tenable.
Well why not send more inspectors or give them more time? Analogize it to your kid caught smoking weed, who denies everything and is defensive and accusatory. At what point do you actually punish the child for smoking weed? Do you just keep hiring babysitters and nauseam to watch over him? At some point you have to lay down the law and Mean What You Say!! 12 years isn't enough??
Probably not SCUDS? Then what are they? Ok not SCUDS? The fact is NOOOO Weapons of Mass Destruction. We didn't go down the weapon list and say this is ok and this isn't. They are not allowed to have them. Enough said about that.
And how is this a violation of International rules to not go after Saddam? And why wouldn't we want to go get him? Is he some peace loving guy that is just getting a bad rap? C'mon he is not only a danger to the international community but to his own people!! Sure he is only killing his own people but hey Hitler only killed his own Jews
I can agree with you on the media's coverage. All they want to cover is anti-war protests. There were 20,000 in Fort Wayne and 10,000 in Richmond for the war. How many have heard about them. Instead we hear only about anti-war protests. Polls show growing support for the war yet we still only hear the negative.
Open your minds is right. People should be able to make their own opinions based on non slanted newscast and I am not going to offer any because they are all slanted. NBC, FOX, CNN, ABC, CBS, CBC, all of them have their own slant. What people have to do is get through their message and see what the real story is sometimes.

Makaveli, I agree with everything you said. That's all I'm going to say though, because I've been arguing this with closeminded people for over a week now and it's driving me nuts.

Makaveli, let me ask you this.
You want peace, but have you seen and read the horrible things and torture that Suddam and his son does to his people? Let alone, Israel?
So you like the idea that he drags the soccer team from a horse if the lose a game? You like that his son pisses on ppl for the heck of it?
If they don't give a f*ck about their own ppl, what makes you think that they car about other nations?

I don't think any of us will ever know the real reason we are going to war. Just because we watch cnn or read the papers doesn't mean we know the "real" reasons. I am sure there are all sorts on politics going on between all nations involved.
And for what its worth, with or without wmd Saddamm needed to be removed. Nobody should have that much power over his people. I also beleive there are much more dangerous people in this world that need to be removed also. Nobody should have to live in fear of there own goverment.
We can go back and forth on our opinons of this war but in truth the only opinon that truly matters is that of the Iraqi people when this is over.
