Reasons not to buy a honda....

As some of you know I'm still looking for my car and obviously i'm interested in the protege5, but tell me, why should I not buy a honda civic SI? (not the new ugly one.)

As far as i can see the only downfall is the stereotypical "civic" jokes, and the low torque numbers. but asides that i don't see a reason not to.

It get's 35-45 MPG
It runs a sub 16 1/4 mile
It will run for a very long time
It's cheaper than a used protege with the same milage.
It has more aftermarket support
It has more front leg room (I'm a tall guy =) )

I honestly do not see why people don't buy honda's or toyotas...(no offense)

you can get a new civic Si for less than a used p5?? that should say something right there!!

in all honesty I know for a fact the new Si's are nice cars. I'm turned off by their looks and high price tag. If the looks don't bother and you can get them for sub-$16K then I'd do it.

do NOT expect to get 35-45mpg on a civic si....it just wont happen....maybe a EX but not an Si.

well other than the fact that everyone does have a civic and the fact that the si i drove felt slower than my protege their pretty kool cars i personally can't take the lack of torque however thats why the only cars i buy are mazdas and nissans.

To answer your question, people have the own taste in car. Also insurance it a B*%$th for a honda becuz its the #1 most stolen car. I had a civic hatchback and it got stolen. All the police found was the frame.

The SI is over rated, its a slowass car. The only good thing is honda can interchange engines. The car slow unless you swap in a h22 or a b20 with a b16 head. Also the Si doesnt get the MPG u state.

The old one's were listed as that but i don't really care about MPG so it doesnt matter.

How can you call an SI slow? it would walk a stock Pro with ease.

protege 1/4 mile = 16.8
civic SI 1/4 mile= 15.8

and also insurance isnt an issue, and i live in a very suburbial area so there is basically no crime here.

i'll put it this way Numbers on paper mean nothing. sure on paper it says an si has 160hp but it also only has 127 or so lb/ft as far as torque goes,
the protege is rated at 130hp and 135 is it? lb/ft of torque which means i can and have taken them off the line.
From first hand experience the si is a joke and i'm talking about the older one, because i was thinking about buying one, but test driving my protege is what made me decide to buy it, the honda sucks as far as torque and acceleration the one i test drove had I/H/E and was still slower off the line than the protege the si has no power until you get high in its power band,
so if you don't mind waiting around all day long for it to finally produce power i say go for it.....another thing to consider my brother beat one in his 91 escort gt which is powered by a protege motor

If by off the line you mean 60' time then yes the pro will be faster, after that the SI will just start pulling away like a madman.

And as for your brother, he either mistaked it for a lower model, or the driver of the SI was terrible. because numbers don't lie.

my brother knows the guy and his girlfriend she even roasts the guy because he lost so he's not mistaking it for a lower model,
sure the civic is faster if your running on a street thats long enough for its power to come in, but imo in everyday driving and in most short "stop light races" they don't have practical or useable power.

it might woop on a pro but 15.8 is dame slow. But you have to compare it, a coupe against a 4 door sedan. My question to you is why a SI? How about an integra gsr?

or actually better yet a more reasonable comparison would be against a MSP
because think about it this way
civic dx/ex =protege dx/lx civic would lose
civic lx = protege es civic would lose
civic si = MSP civic would lose

15.8 is SLOW?

what world are you living in? The last time i checked a sub 16 1/4mile in an economy car is pretty damn quick...

If you think 15.8 is slow i'd hate to hear your opinions on proteges, or the mazda 3 S for that matter, hell even the MSP isnt much faster than that.

I think you need to put this in perspective, sure 15.8 is slow compared to faster cars but 15.8 in it's price range/class is very quick.

Ok but the fact is SI's are alot more civil than a MSP plus the MSP is turbo charged, I'm sure if honda stuck a small turbo on an SI it would stomp a MSP.

You guys are pretty twisted when it comes to speed.

i dunno those were just my reason's why I wouldn't buy a honda but its your money so you have to make the decision, plus i'm kinda biased anyway lol like i said i won't buy anything but a mazda or a nissan next car i'm planning on is a G35 coupe so that'll take me outta the economy car market lol
