Reasons not to buy a honda....

No what your giving me is false information, you're saying that protege's are faster and that 15.8 is slow.
I didnt ask for if the civic SI is fast/slow or if it's faster than a protege.
All i wanted to know was why not to buy a civic, not why the civic is slow or whatever

the only reason hondas get more power cuz they have interference motors, its where the the piston and valve meet the gap is really small, and if the timing belt snaps the valves crash into the piston and bend them and it a lot of $$ to repair. Mazdas dont have that problem when the belt snap.
Also the protege has a better suspension setup then the SI.

well its your money. get whatever you want. I dont give a F#$%. But if you decide on a honda of somesort. I would recommend a Acura integra gsr.
Everything is reliable, the reliability all depends on how good you take care of the car.

It sounds like you already got your mind made up on the Si. I say stick with it. You cant go wrong with either car. If it was me I would take the SI and de-badge the hell out of it. Even take off that wing that comes with all the Si's. Change the rims and you got a regular ol civic. But thats just me.

THAPRO1=post *****, lol
Reasons I didn't buy a Honda--
Handling. I don't care much about 1/4 mile times. This is the best handling little sedan I have ever owned.
Low-rpm torque is great. Stoplight to stoplight I can hang with pretty much ANY NA car in it's class/price range.
It's better-looking than any Honda I have ever seen.
I already own an Accord.

Believe me if i could find a GSR i would buy it, but unfortunately there aren't too many rare cars around where i live.
I'll have to test drive them i guess, just one question, do car lot's let you test drive if you have just your permit?

I doubt they'll let your drive it with only a permit, but the sale person will drive it with you in the car to show you how it drives.

Well here's something to ponder Bartizek. So you beat the Protege down the quarter mile. Big f'in deal! What happens when you get to that first corner? Or better yet: What happens when that wheelbarrow falls off the truck you're following too closely, or a deer jumps out in front of you? I have NO fear when driving my Protege, and drive with absolute confidence. I know that in no matter WHAT situation, I will be able to avoid any obstacle, and keep, not only, myself, but everyone on the road and in the car safe. I'm surprised that you guys who own Protege's didn't mention that first. We've never been impressed with outright speed as much as we have been with a balanced car. Mazda has put together an incredible package with enough power to get you going, and an incredible handler. I guarantee you that the stock Protege will whoop the *** of any stock civic in the handling world, and when it comes down to it, that's what counts.
You want my opinion, then I'll give it to you. You want a 99-00 Civic? Why not a 99-00 Protege ES? I get 32 MPG on a REGULAR basis, and I have a heavy right foot. You can get them, with fairly decent mileage for $6-9k. Mazdas run forever: Case-in-point: My father owned a '90 626 that went 217,000 miles on the original clutch... Mazda makes a great car. Fine, 130 horsepower a little low for you? Spend an extra $300 after you buy it and get a nice intake and exhaust, or whatever floats your boat to make it faster. Not quite satisfied with the way it looks? Well here's your solution: Body Kit. If you're willing to spend up to $10k more for a Civic, then you wouldn't mind spending $1500 on a nice body kit and rims - installed.
You can mention 100 reasons why to buy a Civic, and I can mention 1000 reasons to buy a Protege. Every time I walk out to the parking lot to get into my car, I smile. I know that every drive I take in the car will be fun, enjoyable, and above all: Safe. You see those commercials where a person looks at a car and they can imagine them rushing through the countryside with the sunroof open and the windows down, enjoying the ride. I not only get that every time I look at my car, or any other Protege, but I also get that rush just sitting here typing this post. Tell me how to get to Dallas, PA and I'll show you what I mean.
Sorry, it’s a little more than $0.02… Think of it as in 1940’s dollars adjusted for inflation…
P.S. 15.8 seconds is slow. Run sub-15 and you're (maybe) quick... Run sub-12 and you're fast.
