When I was 4.. I flipped (I wasn't driving ).. in a car, end over end 3 times in the air.. off a highway (higher speeds) landing in a ditch.. sitting in the front seat with no car seat (bad place for a 4 year old).. seat belt saved my life.. all that happened was I cut my lip.. should have seen the car!

Nobody rides in my car without a seatbelt on.. and I won't ride in any car with people who won't wear their seatbelts.. it's amazing how **** that accident at a young age made me..

It is an $86 dollar fine if the police catch you without a belt. If the passenger is not wearing a belt, they are fined $86 and another fine onto the driver for not enforcing the passenger to wear the belt. Even though the driver maybe wearing a seatbelt....

Enough garble to make you go blind.

The reason I am not happy bout it is I have seen them kill just as many ppl and they have saved.... I have mixed feelings about it. When my mom was hit she was injured more by her seatbelt than the impact. Even though I still wear mine and I make everyone in my car wear them.

my friends face was about 2 cm from the windshield of my car when i hit the brakes from 20mph, not even that hard. I didn't realise he wasn't wearing his belt.

Going any faster his head would have gone through the windshield. And 20mph is not that fast. The original safety glass used to decapitate people that way when they would swing back again (not anymore of course that has been resolved!)

not to personally attack you, but the seatbelt excuses in general about seatbelts doing more harm than good are very weak. besides, do you know without a doubt that the seatbelt in your mom's accident did more harm than good? what if she didn't have it on? she probably would have been tossed around and sustained more injuries than the seatbelt could have caused. once again, i'm not jumping on your case for making that statement, it's just that you can't really prove that she would have sustained less injuries w/o the belt.

i did a study last semester and found that every excuse for not wearing a seatbelt was backed up by evidence showing that more injuries could have been sustained if the person were not wearing a seatbelt. here's a little clip of my study:

They are the most effective means of reducing fatalities and serious injuries when traffic accidents occur and are estimated to save 9,500 lives in America each year (Compton 8). Research has found that seatbelts, when used properly, reduce the risk of fatal injury to front seat passenger car occupants by 45% and the risk of moderate-to-critical injury by 50%. For light truck occupants, seatbelts reduce the risk of fatal injury by 60% and moderate-to-critical injury by 65% (Bridgeman 18). Not wearing a seatbelt contributes to more highway deaths than any other single traffic safety-related behavior. If 85% of America wore seatbelts, more than 4,000 additional deaths and 100,000 additional injuries could be prevented each year (Compton 8). In 1999, if every front seat occupant had buckled up, an additional 9,533 deaths could have been prevented (Peterson 25). More than any other measure available, increasing seatbelt use is the single most effective way we can save lives and reduce injuries on America’s roadways (Compton 8).

I wear it no matter what. I don't even think about it. I have been in two hit and run accidents and had a seat belt on both times and it saved me. Sure my shoulder was sore but at least I still had a shoulder.

Seeatbelts keep YOU in control...

one of the key things I learned in years of autocrossing is that it is very difficult to keep control of a car if you are being tossed around inside it. The driver's seatbelt keeps you in front of the controls. It's hard to drive from under the dashboard! And the passengers' seatbelts keep them from landing in your lap -again, hard to drive in that position. Make everyone wear seatbelts in your car.
