aah, i see where you're going... but rebelious as qui-gon was, we get the impression that he would not do anything without the council's approval. as for saifadius being the sidius/palpatine, wouldn't windu and yoda recognize the senator seeing that saifadius served on the jedi council?
here are the thoughts of onehawaiian: sidius/palpatine has darth maul or dooku kill saifadius, eliminating any loose ends. maul dies after blocking obi-wan's lightsaber with his ribs, leaving a sith apprentice position open for dooku. dooku trains and works on his cool lines ("no, this is all wrong. i'll get you released..." lol) and gets windu to take out jango fett by skillfully removing his helmet (yes, i think windu has an agenda...)
and imo, vader is/was/will be the coolest sith of all:
- "i find your lack of faith disturbing."
- calls up his admiral and kills him.
- accepts apology from captain needa, shortly after choking him
i'd fight maul anyday cause he's just a punk@ss sith. but if vader called my house, i'd check the caller id and not answer the phone.

The new StarWars movies fall into the category as, you love it or hate it. My dad tells me that when the original StarWars Trilogy came out, people said the same things, etc etc. Some people are very hard to please.
P.S. YODA RULES!!

BTW, they've only ever shown 2 Sith at once. Sidious and Maul in TPM. Dooku was probably a jedi at the time, and in the 10 years between TPM and AOTC he fell to the dark side and became Sidious's apprentice.
I have never seen anything saying where Palpatine got trained.

well, we all know that palpatine becomes super powerful. but his knowledge of the force is not as impressive as his patience! damn, this old geezer has been scheming for 30yrs!!!
hey, i like that stolen identity concept. but somehow simple id theft doesn't seem to fit palpatine/the sith's persona. i think he turned saifadius, and in the end someone killed him either to tie up loose ends or maybe he was confronted by mace windu...
and on the thought of jedi extermination: i don't think yoda and obi-wan are the only two jedi left, i just think they are the only two relevant ones. i mean there are all these "younglings" being trained in the temple, right? they must have grown up. maybe they got scared and hid like yoda...
i wanna see who kills windu. and how dooku's gonna die. damn, ep3 is on my radar!

Hmmm...I think the identity theft does fit into Palpatine's scheme. He's proven himself to be extremely manipulative. For example, using the Trade Federation in Episode I to invade Naboo to suit his own needs (ie. getting elected Supreme Chancellor).
In order for the Sith to survive they had to stay in the shadows because the Jedi council was so prominent. The Sith had to use trickery and manipulate other into doing their dirty work.
I dunno...I think the ID theft works best, but that's just IMO
I can't wait to see EPIII either!!!

did anyone notice how yoda and windu looked at each other when obi-wan reported about saifadius? makes you kinda wonder...
and what is up with yoda? he hasn't had one original thought yet! if so, it was a clouded one!
obiwan: master yoda, there is an unusual amount of droids smoking the blunt in the deveron system.
yoda: hmmmm, much i feel has been happening in the deveron system.
windu: what do you think it is?
yoda: difficult it is to see, clouded by the dark side this matter is.
wtf??? everytime yoda gets a premonition, it's cause windu and yoda sent obiwan to find out what it is!
but he is bad@ss on the saber! not too intelligent with moving objects tho. why stop the column, when you can push obiwan and anakin out of the way? hmmmm, difficult it is to strategize. the shroud of the dark side has fallen...

Think about this...Qui Gon Jinn died 10 yeas ago...Saifadius died 10 years ago....Dooku said Qui Gon knew about the corruption but didn't tell him all the little details. Yoda said Qui Gon was always rebellious, even doing things without the senates approval. Makes you wonder about the connection between it all.
My god, I think I've succeeded in becoming a Star Wars nerd. Let me go set up my tent for the next movie.

i saw the movie while in Chicago at a true THX cinema....DAMN!!!! very cool moive, MUCH better than episode 1.
Alot of interesting and unexpected answers came about too, like the stormtoopers, the Fett's fate, Anakin (aka Darth Vader) lost his hand, the step brother and girlfriend, of which i suspect to be Luke's gardians, as he was raised by his aunt & uncle...i guess the "step" part just faded...C3P0 and R2D2 meet up for the first time. Also, that R2 had an almost twin in Obi Wons R4 droid.
Lucas answered some questions, but posed quite a few as well, and some not so easily found...there where only a few spots that he hinted at how Anakin gets pulled to the darkside...personnaly i think it's his anger that will get the best of him. Obviously Natalie will be Luke and Leah's mother.
I though Yoda was well done, but not as good as the real thing. Although THE BEST part was when Yoda gets busy....the whole theater cheered when he dropped his cane and did that little Bruce Lee pose with the hands....I was like oh yeah, it's on now ************! Oh and the opening action scenes with Anakin and Obi Won chasing the assasin in the city...straight out of the Fifth Elment...kinda suprised me, but it sure was similar....
The cinematography (or more like animatography) was awe inspiring, it was fully encompassing and truely created a new world of realisim...
what about the Wookies???? haven't seen one yet...but did see, the Sandmen, Jawas and Ewoks...
I though the acting was great, although Natalies action scenes in the big arena seemed to come out of nowhere as she kicked ***....but her initial attitude sure hinted at it...Ewan McGreggor did a great job as Obi Won...would have liked to see more than 2 short scenes with Jimmy Smits....wut up wit dat? and yes, Natalie Portman is one of the most beautiful women i have seen in a long time...
i guess thats all for now. Sorry if i have spiued out repetive crap, but wanted to get my own thoghts down while still fresh and not too clouded from reading everybody elses...i'll go back and read em now...

I agree completely with you, and I think this is the most logical explanation to it all.
Think, Qui Gon was the only one who approved of traning Anakin as a Jedi. And the tall dudes on Camino said specifically that his (Obi's) master, who is Qui Gon comissioned for the clones to be made. Obi even acknowledged it. Safidius is therefore Qui Gon's other name. It's that simple.

nat portman is a damn hottie!
ooh, i like your thinking fellas, but every jedi was called master whether they were or not. they obviously didn't know obi-wan's identity as she didn't know his name when introducing him to the camino's chancellor. they only knew he was a jedi and the vague order of things (students needing masters). and as saifadius served on the council they assumed obiwan had been an understudy. and obiwan only agreed (reluctantly) so as not to blow his cover.
and wouldn't obiwan know quigon's identity if he was saifadius? oh yeah, and the camino's also asked if saifadius was still a leading member of the jedi council... qui-gon never served on the council.
okay time to set my tent up next to ambient's... lol

This qui-gon idea is pretty big. A friend of my bf said the same thing. Maybe, the same they are. Hmmm.....
We might go see it again this weekend. I need to see it again to put the pieces together. Plus we've been watching 4, 5, and 6 this week after work, so I'm all confused.

was a great blow to the Jedi order when Count Dooku voluntarily renounced his commission. A strong-minded man, Dooku's ideas were often out of step with those of the Jedi Council, despite the fact that his former mentor, Yoda, held a lofty position in that governing body. His challenging views were often echoed by his former Padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn, another Jedi who would on occasion defy the Council.
