Are these worth your money?

Just a ? Are these worth your money? and do they actually help? or just a waste?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1874953122

and another ? is it worth it just to change the muffler on your car? b/c i know to get better airflow, you have to change the whole thing from the headers and pipes. are those exhausts sold on ebay like those loud *** civic ones?

Anything that is a straight-through design will help somewhat(if you look into one end you can see completely out the other).

As for sound, you never can be sure without hearing it first. I suggest e-mailing the guy about your concern and ask him if you don't like the sound if you can get a refund, or possibly a discount or something.

Replacing the muffler only can help somewhat, but generally only 3-4 hp. It generally won't be a big, noticeable difference.

Also, I have a funny feeling that the muffler in this ad is one of the "loud *** civic ones". 2.5" is TOO BIG for a 1.8L engine, and if all else is equal, larger pipe = more noise. Also, "straight thru" mufflers may be good for flow and horsepower, but they are generally louder than other designs. IMHO they are usually too loud when used without a resonator pipe of some sort.

The one on the picture is loud, they all are, but this one makes a deep and throaty sound, not a fly-by-bumble-bee sound. I am looking into the same muffler for my pro.

tuan (acoupdetat) had a muffler on his P5 like that, and now mark (mazdaboy42) has it on his car, and it sounds good. i've heard that hondas sound like they do because of the VTEC (not sure if that's true or not though). btw, it has plenty of room to clear the bumper. it's been installed on tuan's and mark's P5's w/ no problems.
