I have a Borla exhaust on my Jeep and I consider it kinda loud. But it is 50 state legal and it came with documentation. Not all aftermarket exhausts are illegal. I would just suggest to Trogdor_34 to buy a 50 state legal exhaust. Unless he doesn't mind getting hassled.

I mean for Gods sake we have COPS in my area that are really into cars and car shows. Alot of them show up ( at weekly car shows) in their muscle cars with straight pipes and glasspacks. Now those are loud.
I guess passing inspection would vary from state to state. As long as not obnoxiously loud, it should be fine. Just don't do anything to draw attention to yourself. A louder exhaust may raise a few eyebrows, and that may be it. But doing burnouts at a light, weaving in and out of traffic or keeping your car at WOT would definitely get you the wrong attention

if i see a cop in the vicinity, i tend to keep the revving to a minimum. it is hard not to notice a bright yellow car like mine with dark tinted windows and stickers so i try to keep it as quiet as i can!

Oh hell yeah. That is a definite No-No. You could get stopped just for chirping the tires.

Yah i dont want a muffler that is going to **** off my neighbers and so on, but i want my car to make some noise, not a muffler that screams look at me but one that you can hear when you go by.

i had my license for a month before i got pulled over (56 in a 35) and it was stock except for my 2 10" subs. i had my sterio all the way up and he could definitally hear them and he could see them. but he didnt say anything about it. And a month later when i got my license back i put a spoiler, fart can, and LEDwindsheald washers and i still speed and rev it high around cops when i dont see them but they seem to not care. I have had a cop yell "SLOW DOWN" when i was ripping outa my school parking lot but other than that they dont care. (by the way i am still 16) becides whos car is this?

I would check your state's decible ordinance (if there is one). Cali has one & people are getting busted right & left. Cops are using it as an excuse to get you for other things. I watched a cop pull over a kid in a lowered stock Civic -w- STOCK exhaust because he said the exhaust was too loud. When the kid revved up to prove it was stock, he cited him for being too low. Check your laws, find something legal and go for it. Or, put whatever you want and shift at low RPM's, like I did.

Cops look for heavily modified cars, on my pro its pretty much stock on the outside except for my exhaust. But in my civic hatchback, i get pulled over a few time b/c of ride height and no front license plate. As long as you dont do any thing illegal or give the cop reason to pull you over, ur fine

bpt323, the minimum ride height here is 23 or 24 inches from the ground to the center of the headlight. At that time i was riding at around 19-20 inches, it was really dropped. I got a fix it ticket, lucky i had coilovers.

Just for the record.....cops also watch for cars that go fast......like if you are in a toyota camry and you are tryin not to let a dakota pass you and try to do the speed limit at the same time.......ie 55 in the 30 then you see a cop in the intersection....NOT A GOOD SIGN....

I drive a 10 second mustang on the weekends and cops love it. They want to hear me jump on it and it's louder than any of the import I've seen. Muscle cars, cool cars, exotics are safe from the cops, They'll just pull you over to have a look at it or talk. Soup cans on rice is a whole' nother story, it's import hunting season for them.

peace....Pete
