What do you guys think of the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V?

Cheaper? Probably because it's not selling very well.
175 hp? Yeah, right. They were originally saying 180-185 but had to back peddle when they couldn't deliver "oh, those numbers were engineering targets". On top of that, I've heard/read a couple accounts of dyno numbers that say it's power output is even less than the quoted 175.
As the former owner of a 92 SE-R, I scoff at the use of the SE-R name. Hell, whatever engineer/exec is responsible for the Vspec tuning name probably screamed bloody murder when they realized some marketing goon was trying to spice up a lame duck Sentra with their name...hence the use of Spec V
At least they've brought the 350 and ilk to market...

Most of you might not care but the interior of P-5 looks WAY better than Sentra to me.
Before I made the decision on which car to purchase, I did check out the SE-R. When I got into the showroom and took a sit inside the SE-R, I was like what the hell... this interior looks BORING !! Looks like a 90s car to me

I was going to look at one, but when I found out all that was wrong with it I said no way.
Its really up to you if you want one.
They have sold decent enough to warrant making another year of them. So some people must like them.

Here's why the Sentra SE-R Spec V is so cheap;
1. It's built in Mexico. Quality control? What's that?
2. It has a twist beam rear suspension. Leave this suspension on the 1984 K-car it was designed for.
3. Sit in one and you'll see that the interior reeks of cheapness, I think a Z24 has better interior quality, although they are also built in Mexico.
4. It IS cheap.
Remember if speed and horsepower were everything people would be buying Camaros and Mustangs instead of 330CI's and IS300's.

Well, I own a 2002 Spec V, bought it for $16,700 + tax/etc...
For what it is it competes with a lot of the new market. It's a mid-15 second 1/4 runner, and a .86g skidpad turner. It sticks through the corners, and lays down two strips of rubber through 2nd gear.
My spec put down 145whp with an AEM intake installed. The car doesn't put the giant numbers out there but it drives well and has plenty of low end torque. The LSD is awesome in it.
The only thing I don't really like is the body styling, the car just looks "family" oriented with a trucklike front end. The seats are comfortable enough, hard as **** to clean though.
If I had the opportunity I would have picked up the Mazdaspeed protege, better looks, nicer interior, turbo fun, etc.. but 20,500 is a bit much after tax/etc...
Don't diss the new sentra, its not as bad as people make it out to be. But the b15 forums are a bunch of ****, almost everyone there is a *****.

I have been a mazda guy since day one. I currently own 3. Having said that I gotta be honest and say that the spec in a stock vs stock comparison to a new pro es sedan absolutely killed the mazda. The nissan is alot more fun to drive. As far as quality though.......uh well....the Nissan has some serious issues, while mazda's quality if you buy a real mazda, not a fordzda, is excellent.

First off the LSD is far from awesome, I test drove one and have driven my friends almost as much as my car. Nissan is notorious for weak LSDs. The helical diff is almost as easy to break loose in the corners as an open diff. I do give credit to the off the line decency of the stock lSD however. In my opinion it acts like more of a "locker" for off the line starts than some other LSD equiped FWDs, such as an ITR. I also feel that the use of a 6 cog box is a marketing gimmick. The low revving flat torque band makes it pointless for close ratio 6 speed. If it longer gears, like a proteges, you could get much better 0 to 60 times and possibly 1/4s.
The quirky handling and cable clutch/shifter drove me insane. I have had horrible experiences in corners trying to un-bind the clutch. The rear ends torsion beam is almost identical to my Grandma's dogde 600 k.
I do like things about it however so don't think I am just out to destroy any car that is not a protege. I like the support of the seats, and prefer the 03+s new grey color over the red. and the little box on the top of the dash is great for sunglasses. The low end torque is definatley nice, and I like the stock wheels.

I've driven one. Yeah it was faster than my Protege ES, yet BUTT ugly and without class. The poor man's Bimmer torch has officially been passed from the old SE-R to the Protege. Nissan dropped the ball once they ditched the 300Z so many years ago.

As well as all of their other cars and trucks and such besides the 350Z that is made and shipped over from Japan. a friend of mine wanted one but he stopped liking them when Speedvision dynoed one and only got 155hps from it. Well that sucks. I have driven them...I stare at one all day. They cant handle and I sit funny in them.
The interior is okay as far as upholstry goes. A silver seating in the middle silver and black mesh on the sides. I like it and I am shooting for something like that in my car. The drivers seat is comfortable, but the dash board arrangement looks like the car is on crack.
They come stock with aluminum alloy 5 spoke 16/17inch wheels. ( i cant remember which im sure its 16) That have an interesting design..but the nissan symbol...just makes them suck. My sales manager is constantly trying to get me to drive it and buy it...but I hate it. The exterior styling sucks...not European enogh for me and after drving the protege that is taller, I feel as if though I am cramped.
Typically when we get a Spec-V in they go off of our lot in the $21,000 range....depending on the options that could be more.
When we get the base model in that goes for $16,000 MSRP is around 14 something.

Unfortunately I've never gotten to drive a Spec-V, or a 3rd gen pro, but it's almost unianimous the Protege is a much better car over all. Sadly, I think I'm the only one who likes how the Spec-Vs look
