what's an "NCO"?
#16
My dad lives right down the street from March. C-17s are going there in the next couple years, hoping to get assigned there eventually, as I am from CA. Dunno where my wife would go, though, as she is Active Duty.
I work with 4 E-7/8's right now, I enjoy working with them, as they know their business. However, Army and Marine NCOs have a different function, I think, as they are much more the interface between the troops and the officers; at least based on what little I have seen while moving them to and from the AORs. Especially as you see 1 capt/major, and 1 lt with a whole plane full of troops. Compare that to a C-17 crew (when augmented) has 3 officers of any mix with 2 enlisted. The flyers just don't have the same working relationship with enlisted as most NCOs and officers in the rest of the military.

Scapa has a point, haven't heard KCO very often. But, yeah I can see a point for the NCO's and SNCO's in the Army and Marines...sorry Scapa, but for the most part....on this hellhole I'm transferring from today most Chiefs and up don't have a point other than to harrass and detain us blueshirts from work.

No need to apologize, I tend to agree with you: too many officers and chiefs have their heads in the wrong place.
That said, someone has to keep things safe: I've also met LOTS of blueshirts who don't think things thru before acting, usually in an unsafe manner...

This little feud about the services, and why the air force isn't the "real" military reminds me of a comic I once saw, I looked for it online and couldn't find it so, I'll describe it.
In the first frame, labeled "Infantry" you see a few guys standing in mud while its raining, one of the soldiers says "This sucks"
In the second frame, labeled "Rangers" are some more guys, better equipment and one of the guys says "I love how much this sucks"
In the third frame, labeled "Special Forces" Are a few guys with differing equipment, one of the guys saying "I wish it would suck more"
In the fourth frame, labeled "Aviation" is a shot of a black hawk with the pilot looking through the window saying "Man, it must suck out there"
And in the final frame labeled "Air Force" are a couple of guys in a room, sitting on a couch in front of a TV and the guy with the remote is saying "No cable TV?! THIS SUCKS!! "
Haha...funny stuff, I think that's why the Air Force gets ribbed so much sometimes. I was just reading an article about how a couple of B2 pilots got dropped off at the base by their families, flew to Iraq, dropped bombs, flew home and were back at home watching the war news with their families. That's crazy stuff, could you imagine leaving your family to go to war and be home in time for dinner the next day?
Seriously though, all service's roles are different and a little good natured ribbing is gonna happen, but when push comes to shove, we all stand together.

I have used that comic a few times myself, because it's true! we stay in hotels, and a lot of guys complain when they aren't in a hotel! Makes for a lot of primadonna's. It's the advantage of having a long range aircraft
Btw, those B2 guys take off out of Whiteman (Missouri), and fly for something like 40 hours before they get back home. Crazy! They have the record for the longest non-stop mission: 44 hours.
