who smokes here?

well, i sadly used to, back when i was 15 thankfully my girlfriend got me to quit before i got too addicted. for one thing i will say to all of you, its the most discusting thing you could ever do, after every smoke i was discussded with my self and how nasty it is. but anyways to your question.
why did i do it? mostly pressure, i enjoyed it to a certain extent... and there is a whole socail part to it. also it was quite calming, when i was under stress and such.
but just smoking on and off for a couple months hendered me alot... blood flow to my hands suck now (as it is a common thing with smokers after they quit) my hands turn bright red or blue sometimes, its like WTF and my lungs sucked for a while, till i started working out more often, but im back to normal breathing capacity mostly
just good advice, dont start! i have urges once in a while, but i just have to remember not to.... so ya

I'm a smoker for almost 15 years now, and I get really pissed when I try to calculate all the money I have spent killing myself.
Interestingly, I was a weed smoker before cigs. Shortly after I started puffing pot, a buddy told me that if you smoke a menthol cig while you're high and hold the puff, you get a nice headrush and weird sensation from the menthol. I guess that's where it started.
I quit smoking weed a few years ago - not because I was all fucked up from it, I just got tired of smoking pot and doing various other mild drugs all the time, and it naturally tapered off. I probably take a puff about twice a year now, and generally regret it afterward - dunno, just ain't the same anymore. I consider myself one of the lucky ones who just "grew out" of my drug-taking phase.
But the cigs have held on. I've tried to quit tons of times, and I always go back. It's a HORRIBLE addiction, that creeps into every facet of your life - every minute of the day, and every decision you make revolves around smoking if you take a good look at it - "I won't go to that restaurant, there's no smoking section" or "We can't go look at that apartment because they want non-smokers". It's frigging tough, and I really do wish I never started.
But at least I have taken to buying online or from the local Indian Reservations, tax-free. A pack of cigs in NYC is up to $8 or more in some places, and NYC has the highest cigarette prices in the nation. Even where I am on Long Island (suburbs of the city), the prices are up to about $6 a pack. I get my cartons of fine-tasting generic Monarch butts for $20 a carton, or I can get my preferred brand - Parliament - online for $17 delivered - but the delivery takes two weeks or so (from Switzerland) - I haven't paid prices like that in about 10 years.
Advice to non-smokers is not to start. It is NOT cool. You WILL get addicted, and you WILL find it very very hard to quit. It's a filthy habit - you will smell like smoke, your home will smell, your car will smell, your clothes will smell - it sucks. And all the while, you'll want another one.
At least we ALL quit eventually - one way or another.
I'm getting married the end of this month (the 29th! Open bar - who's coming?). I'd like to have a family someday. My wife is a smoker, too. We have agreed that with all we know these days, there is no way she will smoke during pregnancy. So if she's gotta quit, I will too. It's only fair - and what better reason to quit than to be able to give your own child the best chance possible at a healthy life?
At least I have a true plan to quit - one that I will be motivated to stick to.

Quitting cigarettes for good was the hardest thing I've ever done... It took about a month of being on the patch and some hardcore pot smoking, but I got the job done. I still smoke a lot of pot, but I never get cigarette cravings

i used to smoke, when i was about 15... quicky realized, it was stupid. used to puff on the sticky-icky too, saw so many permafried people around me, and again quicky realized, it was stupid. although, it did make coming back from lunch at school and sitting through a course that was all note-taking, actually interesting. i quit 3 years ago.

Patio you are so right about the increase in buzz when drinking...the only time that I will smoke is when I am a stumbling drunk...can't smoke when I am sober...but I have found that cigars enhance the buzz even more...tabacco is so bad

I started smoking when I was 15. Now at 21 I cant stop.
I started from peer presure and wanting to be cool. I wish I never started. I have tried to quit several times, but everytime I see someone lighting up or smell cigarette smoke I go crazy and give in to the urge. Hangin out with nothin but smokers is probably part of the problem too

I have smoked a cigar before and it was awful. My throat hurt for days. I guess it just isn't for me. Plus I like to live a little longer and have clean lungs too. Or at least as clean as I can make them.

Here is my post where I vent out against smokers.
I have gotten in a ton of auguments with smokers over the years. One of the biggest defenses that they have is "You breath car fumes and other toxic fumes all day, whats the difference with a cigarette?". I couldnt tell you how many times I heard this line! Its one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Its like saying, "Im not going to use a parachute when I skydive, you end up on the ground either way." Sure car fumes and other pollutants in the air can cause cancer (and do), but smoking only ADDS to it. Ive read studies saying that your chances of lung cancer increase 80% if you smoke. Most of the defenses that smokers have is related to "I have to right to..." Anyone else here know what I mean? It all comes down to admitting you have a problem. Various members here have admitted they have a problem, and how hard it is or was to quit smoking. I COMPLETELY understand that it must be VERY hard to quit smoking, but its NOT impossible.
Im suprised that their hasnt been a PRO-Smoking post on this thread yet...anyone here pro-smoking??
